Group in a house during the day

Time passes - its night

So is the sub heading just

NIGHT

Or LATER - NIGHT

As usual thanks ahead of time.

Whatever is the clearest.

Personally, I would go with LATER - NIGHT

Feature

42.2

Two steps to writing a good screenplay:
1) Write a bad one
2) Fix it

Clarity is king. So whatever is clearest.

For me - if you start during the day and the next scene is at night - you don't need later - because - well, it's night.

INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

I only use later when I am the same local, and now it is later in the day or night. e.g.,

INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

LATER

Can't go wrong with this method.

This. You establish the location in the slug-line; after, you're not changing location, you're just changing time within that location.

INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT

Bob and Mary have dinner.

LATER

Bob and Mary wash dishes.

As eldave said, clarity is king. Formatting may feel daunting at first, with all the rules, dos and don'ts, etc. So when in doubt, just keep it simple.
