I started this thing telling stories about my new goldfish on Twitter. Just little tidbits about how much he was frustrating me with his late night music... what happened when he got a new job... how he got his own pet (a pet rock named Rocky)... silly stories.
My sister read them to my young niece and one day when I was visiting, she gave me a chalk drawing of the two of us. I have it framed on my wall. I'm also using it as a stand-in poster for the project.
(The original script was called Albert and Me.)

I do think if you get into a pilot with this, you'll definitely need to venture Stanley and Albert out into the world with interaction with other humans (and animals, perhaps?) to keep it fresh. I'll be interested to see how Albert interacts with others besides Stanley. That will be the real test, to me at least.
The pilot very much pushes Stanley out more (and Albert too for that matter.) In the current version, Albert is arrested (not for stealing the car, but for getting mouthy with the officer) and Stanley bails him out. And, yes, I totally agree on the series needing a much broader world. I'm on it. It's all reflected in the show bible!
The pilot also has Albert lie to the police officer about his identity, which later leads to an outstanding warrant for Stanley. That particular plot piece gets played out in a later episode where Stanley gets arrested. (It actually happened to a friend of mine.)

Quick update: After Warren Duncan learned about my thoughts on converting the BAD FISH project into a graphic novel, he surprised me by commissioning a sample cover for the project.
It was an amazing gesture from a very good friend, and I greatly appreciate it.
If you'd like to see the cover and some connected concept art, check out it out here:
