I don't like rap because I am a very audio person that doesn't listen to what the singer has to say because I don't care what they believe in. I do like good lyrics that can be touching but it is mostly music blended with the sound of the singers vioce that makes me sing along and scream with him (hard rock and metal is my calling) not his lyrics. I don't care about anyone elses philsophys but mine because I'm better (egoist). So my audio ability makes me more a rocker than a rapper however, I listen to rap rock because it uses guitars, etc. I am sure you understand me if you have learned about how the human mind works, psychology, etc.
As a lover of music of all kinds, it makes me sick to my stomach to listen to mainstream anything, but mainstream rap is especially bad. It seriously makes me want to kill myself (ok, not seriously). Has anyone else heard that god-awful rubber band song??? (No? Then download it. T.I. - Rubber Band Man) It upsets me when people tell me something like... 50 cent is the best rapper alive, or Lil Jon has the best album out right now... It upsets me even more when people totally give up on rap music because of what they hear in the mainstream. Yes... I'm ranting...
I hate hate hate hate to hear people put rap music down because 95% of the time (this doesn't include you, SonofElrond), the only rap they've heard is stuff that's on the radio or BET. They say they hate rap because it's all about being materialistic. They say there's too much profanity. They say there's no talent involved (if that's true, I'd like to see someone with no talent write anything anywhere near as poetic as anything from Eyedea). They say they hate the stuff their neighbor with the twenty-inch chrome rims on his '88 escort plays at 3 in the morning when they're trying to sleep. That's not hip-hop. That's the hip-hop being marketed to you - but that's not hip-hop. It's so much deeper than that. I'll cut myself off there.
Shoo! That felt good. And as if this post wasn't long enough, I leave you with some rap lyrics.
"I sing a bastard's tune, inspired by the noise The ship made before it sank and was finally destroyed I flaunt the grin of a man made for disguising a boy Who tried to avoid showing the cry in his voice But there's something special about the notes that he hears Those scales are redemption, unraveling repressed memories And when he breathes, a new energy enters and consumes him To heal his wounds and unseal his doom If only I could make you understand But words are just words so I can't The universe's deepest art form keeps my heart warm with influence I tell ya Ain't nothing quite as beautiful as Music"
And one last thing... all you pro-rap guys mentioned some pretty good artists... but what about Blackalicious? Anybody listen to them?
bottle r0ckit: you know... bottle r0ckit: i just don't get it bottle r0ckit: zombies. people alive. people try to stay alive by shooting zombies in the head. some of said "people" get infected. people have to shoot own friends, sometimes hesistate. fewer people are left to fight off zombies. the rest of the movie goes either two ways. they live, or they die. credits roll. bottle r0ckit: what drives people to write this stuff...
A little I like to go indy rap, unheard off bands. I'll listen to any rap but if DMX and Ja Rule are rap than call me a child and bring in Michael Jackson because they cannot hold a rap tune
I thought I go more psychological Wesley. I see you say one thing and do other by giving us your music history which is considerably longer than mine. I won't bother reading what your post says, if you insult what I write. All I want to give is the reason why and just some of the things I learned.
Yeah, same here. Blazing Arrow doesn't get as much time in my cd players as it used to, but it's still in rotation. I handn't heard anything about a new album, but now that I have, I'm pretty excited. I can't wait.

I'd think someone with so much writting talent and vocal staying power such as GOOSE, would be staunchly against the mellow dramatic callings of untalented rappers alike. However, this is not the case here in lies.
Anyway... my two cents on all this... RAP sucks and I don't care who likes what, when how or why.
I'm a rock guy. I like brilliant guitar, moving lyrics, snaping drum beats and the pop of a meridic bass stum.
You can't get that from a rapper. I don't care what rapper you say.
