I've recently had reason to make contact with Blake Snyder, the author of the excellent screenwriting book Save The Cat (amongst others). He informed me that he is holding a seminar in London on May 2/3 2009.
As well as booking a place for myself I offered to spread the word amongst UK writers, giving us the opportunity to attend an excellent 2-day seminar and perhaps a meet-up on the Saturday night?
Give me a shout if you book up and a little closer to the time we can all arrange to meet after the seminar on the Saturday evening.
All the best,
Kris

He is also at the Pitchfest in LA in June, along with Pia Alessandra who is my other script writing teacher (her podcast is brilliant btw and well worth downloading one a week).
I am gonna try an and coincide my US vacation with a day at the Pitchfest. It looks like it will be good.
Sucks, won't be able to make this. Well, I could make the Saturday date, but not the Sunday version... And it seems a bit pointless paying to attend one date.
Ditto thanks on the tip about the podcast! (though her name is actually Pilar - for those also trying to find it) I had a chance to listen to the first four episodes on my way to and from work today, and it's pretty good stuff. Also couldn't help noticing that the first letter is from a Mike from Chicago. Coincidence, or is it who I'm thinking?

Good call, I obviously got a little confused with Pilar and our own Pia. I always think of curry whenever she says her name (pilar rice). But yes, the podcast is excellent, If you can manage to get all the back episodes I would do, she has had some really great shows over the past year.
Snyder's book is a great beginner's guide to screenplay structure.
I would agree 100%, I read quite a few books last year and thought they were all crap. I had all but given up on these screenwriting gurus when I bought Save the Cat. I can honestly say it was like a revelation and does make perfect sense. It is one of those things that just seems so obvious now but I was really getting bogged down it pointless detail before this book.
