So I’m writing a scene where the detective is reading a letter by a dead former nemesis of his. The letter is narrated in a voice over (v.o.)

There are some action breaks so as to break up the length of the monologue.

I tried to format the second group on as BAUMANN (V.O.) CONT’D. And also BAUMANN (CONT’D) ( (V.O.). Final draft will take either of these and changes both back to BAUMANN (V.O.)

I know final draft is the model software for formatting, but is this right.

(I also know this one thing is not a deal breaker, but would like to know.)

I tries Trottier and August - neither say anything on it.

FD will not add an automatic cont'd after (V.O.) as it will only automatically append one. e.g.,

DAVE

blah, blah, blah, a automatically goes to

DAVE (CONT'D)

DAVE (V.O)

blah, blah, blah, a automatically goes to

DAVE

You have to do it manually if you want DAVE (V.O) (CONT'D)

Don't know what to tell you. Mine didn't.  I just wrote this:

Quoted Text
INT. DAVE’S HOUSE - DAY

Action lines.

DAVE (V.O.)
Test test.

DAVE (V.O.) (CONT’D)
Test test

DAVE (V.O.) (CONT’D)
Test test

On the Document tab, click on "Mores and Continueds" then uncheck the option for "Automatic Character Continueds".

You'll have to type (CONT'D) yourself when you want it, but you should be able to put it on any dialog you want.

Feature-length scripts:
Who Wants to Be a Princess? (Family)
Glass House (Horror anthology)

TV pilots:
"Kord" (Fantasy)
"Mal Suerte" (Superhero)

Additional scripts are listed here.
