The Day of the Jackal series (reboot) is lots of fun! Eddie Redmayne might seem like least likely antihero to take on this role but he does a great job.

I will say I was a reluctant viewer. I'd seen the original movie and it's very dated now, and at first I turned up my nose at Hubby when he suggested it. A glowing review convinced me to give the first Ep a go, and then I was hooked. Enabling Hubby to say: told you so! I hate it when he's right.

Suspension of disbelief is needed with some scenes as is tolerating some silliness, but overall it's beautifully photographed, the acting is topnotch, and the cat and mouse plot, particularly the situations where you think he'll never get out of this one, are riveting and edge of the seat stuff.

Part Bourne, part Bond gone rogue - the sniper action alone is worth the watch. Weird when you're barracking for an assassin to make his target.

Being a big fan of the original movie Redmayne's dad even warned him not to screw it up.

I have a feeling his dad would be proud.

Can't embed that link cause I'm on my phone.

This is a must-see.

May be time to take a look at this. It has to be better than the Bruce Willis vehicle from a few years back.

Have you seen 2023’s Fincher/Fassbender flick, The Killer? It’s slight but entertaining. Probably better than many people expected.

Oh, God! DB, there is no comparison.
Yep, The Killer didn't quite live up to my expectations though it was enjoyable. This I enjoyed much more.

Great shout Libby. I binge watched this one and the conclusion Thursday. Great sniper work. Great acting. Loved the original, even the Bruce Willis version was fun to watch. Best drama I've watched on Sky for some time. Can't wait for the 2nd series.  The only gripe for me was the Chaser- she didn't cut the mustard for me.  Just couldn't take her seriously for whatever reason.

Just finished it, great series, Redmayne was fantastic imho.

And they've already greenlit the second series.

I see I'm not the only fan.

Ant, I didn't know it got the greenlight for a second series. I was hoping... Fantastic news!

And John, if you're talking about Bianca, yep I was a bit iffy about her character too. Wonder who will replace her in the second series.

Either way, I hope we don't have to wait too long.

Somebody like Kiera Knightly would give it some more credence for me. Somebody who can really kick their heels and bring it up another level.

Keira Knightley is too busy in Black Doves. Netflix greenlit series two before it even premiered apparently. I watched it too but it's not a patch on Jackal.

So who would you cast then? I’m dying to know. And of course they could be from anywhere.

Haha! I was thinking more like Florence Pugh or Vicky McClure. Someone unknown would be good, who makes an impact like they both did, especially Florence who seemed to come from nowhere and then was everywhere. Saffron Hocking from Top Boy, maybe?

I'd cast it brilliantly.
I think the problem was we didn't really care when Bianca died and that should have been a big emotional moment for the audience. Her character was great in that she wouldn't be told: no! But she was a little abrasive, and I don't think the family dynamic (or casting of the family) was great either. Jmho. Being picky cause it was terrific regardless.

Make sure to include a bunch of non American actors playing American characters! That never gets old.

"Mate, it's easy to sound American! All you have to do is speak like a pirate imitating a dirtbike! ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...."

It's almost as cool as American actors with bad fake foreign accents.

DB, I'm confused, this is not a Nolan movie.
This has a predominantly Brit cast.

So? Cast Brit actors to play American characters pretending to be Brit characters.

It's not a real movie if it doesn't have fake accents. That's just how it is, I don't make the rules.
