What do you think of 3D movies? Do they give any improvment to the story telling?

I don't know about that. But they sure are pretty to look at.  Monsters Vs Alien at Imax was my first 3-D experience and I am so pumped for Avatar end of this year and Alice In Wonderland next year. Bring it on!

If done right they can really bring the audience in with their depth.

Best 3D movie so far- Battle For Terra

Well, 3D movies are pretty cool, but the only movie I have seen with really any 3D effects was My Bloody Valentine. That movie was made for 3D.

Battle for Terra, Bolt, Up, these movies were okay, but the 3D was just thrown in as an after thought, as a gimmick to sell more tickets.

I'm really looking forward to The Final Destination 3D this summer, that was actually made for 3D and will have good 3D effects, if nothing else.

I really think 3D is just a stupid gimmick that belongs in amusement parks, not in movie theatres. it's pretty to look at, but that is it.

All this new 3D shit reminds me of William Castle. That's not a good thing.

The glasses don't really make the experience fun. Journey To The Center of The Earth 3D was decent and has good 3D moments but what is the ultimate point?

In the Journey movie water, trees, dinosaurs and a yoyo jumps off the screen but the whole thing looks reddish which in my opinion hurts the whole 3D gimmick.

I am a little dissapointed that all the recent movies with 3-D are still stuck in the 50's gimmick mentality of things pop out of the screen. The 3-D action is suppose to take place inside the screen.

Straight from the mouth of James Cameron the purpose of this new 3-D is to give the visuals a depth of field and make the foreground stand out more from the background to give it more  realism of how our eyes percieve the enviroment we see around ourselves- to step away from the flat screen look of cimema

Now that is something to be excited about.

I've only seen three films in 3D, but I can honestly say I've enjoyed the extra dimension so far. I think viewers just have to keep in mind how the 3D is going to enhance the film.

Coraline is a beautiful film no matter how you watch it, but I felt the 3D made the lanscapes more absorbing and intricate without being obnoxiously in-your-face.

As for movies like My Bloody Valentine and Monsters vs. Aliens, I don't think they would have been as effective without the assaulting 3D element. I mean, half of the camera tricks in those movies were specifically shot to jump out of the screen. They wouldn't work otherwise.
