A small-time thief has met her match. I appreciate the line "It's time for the clap." Part of me wants the old man to get back at the nurse even more than he did, but all the pieces are in place here. Definitely solid work.

Nicely written and well told. The ending didn't quite do it for me. Instead of Karen being a bad person and getting hers, it turns out old Reg is a bad person as well. The ending left me feeling, well, I guess they deserve each other...

thanks all

it was fun to write again and struggle with a concept. It seems so easy to put a gloss on how people are reacting to this episode that it often hides the darker sides.

What this was about...

I often think we over present previous generations as perfect, selfless etc and castigate the current.

A recent article explaining how much crime went up in the blitz, how so much went unreported, even down to how important medicines were stolen etc made me think further. Adultery was 'apparently' common, but that's not how it is portrayed.

So, taking this 'vibe' further I thought of showing that both generations are flawed, through these two particular characters.

I suppose the 'clap', which is big in the UK, was another issue I wanted to consider.

We clap for the health carers, which considering they could be saving your life, is not unreasonable. BUT...as a friend in the police force said, they are doing their jobs, for which they are paid, and no one was clapping for him. Locally the hospital is over 50% quieter than normal, so are clapping for those who haven't lost a job (unlike many), are doing what they are paid for, except they are having to handle less than normal.

lots of complications and contradictions in this upside down world.

I enjoyed this OWC - lots of good ideas. The variety of these things still amazes me.

Amongst all the sad news there is the occasional light.

So I'm giving this script a bump as I've reached agreement with a French student to have this produced next year.

Hopefully it will be finished - I've had a fair few that disappeared into thin air - and will then see the light of day. Indeed, I will be fascinated to see it in a different language, hopefully filmed in Paris. Fingers crossed for subtitles as well

cheers

Bill

Note to Don - thanks for the OWC and  could you please have me down as the writer in the thread. Ta
