So I know we have a thread for Oscar chat and predictions but thought it would be good to have competition for our predictions.

One pick per category, 1,000,000 points per correct answer and -1,000,000 for every wrong selection.  The winner gets to be crowned Oscar champion for 2008 and gets to spend the rest of the year basking in self congratulatory glory and reminding people at every opportunity they get that they won. Surely a prize not to be sniffed at.

Note: The following categories are fixed and new ones cannot be added, and all categories must have an answer next to them. Edits are allowed but none after the Oscars start of course!

* Please restrict any chatter to your competition entry not have posts with just chat, will make it easier to score and Shelton already started a thread to chat about the Oscars.

** before anyone complains I have boycotted the foreign language films category as the best two foreign language films of last year are not eligible.

For the nominations see...http://www.imdb.com/features/rto/2008/oscars

Since it took only the 2nd reply and Jordan to break the main rule about no chat on this thread! I reckon I am allowed to bump this one up...

C'mon folks, I thought maybe this may get a limited response but Jeez is this really just a competition between me and Death Monkey? Am I really destined to finish last of 2?

I did kinda think that there would be at least a few of us interested in the Oscars, even if they are only a bit of a laugh.

Anyway I am a but drunk at the moment so any posts I make between now and passing out time will probably cause me grief tomorrow. But come on, have a go at least, I thought it might have been a bit of a bit of a fun competition for us.

Gone through and added which picks are correct/incorrect to make scoring easier, and because I have nothing better to do during commercial breaks.

I suppose this makes me unofficial scorekeeper.

Hey,

Shelton, I think I should get credit for No Country or Samuel L. Jackson. It's an inclusive "or". I can show you the truth table.

By my count, Murphy and Flyboy are tied with 7/10 each.  Nice showing with the additional picks, Jordan, but unfortunately they weren't "sanctioned".

The winner will be decided by coming closest to a number between 1 and 100 that I pick, which I will be pm'ing to a mod right after I finish this post.

Go.

Sorry, truth table or not, I can't reward a multiple pick.

No huge surprises this year IMO. I'm glad Daniel Day Lewis won Best Actor and it was good to see The Bourne Ultimatum get some much deserved recognition by winning a few technical awards.

Obviously the Academy has completely lost the plot. You owe me 70$!

Hey, 1 out of 64 ain't all bad.

But I'm clueless as to why "No Country" won anything.
