So I know we have a thread for Oscar chat and predictions but thought it would be good to have competition for our predictions.
One pick per category, 1,000,000 points per correct answer and -1,000,000 for every wrong selection. The winner gets to be crowned Oscar champion for 2008 and gets to spend the rest of the year basking in self congratulatory glory and reminding people at every opportunity they get that they won. Surely a prize not to be sniffed at.
Note: The following categories are fixed and new ones cannot be added, and all categories must have an answer next to them. Edits are allowed but none after the Oscars start of course!
* Please restrict any chatter to your competition entry not have posts with just chat, will make it easier to score and Shelton already started a thread to chat about the Oscars.
** before anyone complains I have boycotted the foreign language films category as the best two foreign language films of last year are not eligible.
Since it took only the 2nd reply and Jordan to break the main rule about no chat on this thread! I reckon I am allowed to bump this one up...
C'mon folks, I thought maybe this may get a limited response but Jeez is this really just a competition between me and Death Monkey? Am I really destined to finish last of 2?
I did kinda think that there would be at least a few of us interested in the Oscars, even if they are only a bit of a laugh.
Anyway I am a but drunk at the moment so any posts I make between now and passing out time will probably cause me grief tomorrow. But come on, have a go at least, I thought it might have been a bit of a bit of a fun competition for us.
By my count, Murphy and Flyboy are tied with 7/10 each. Nice showing with the additional picks, Jordan, but unfortunately they weren't "sanctioned".
The winner will be decided by coming closest to a number between 1 and 100 that I pick, which I will be pm'ing to a mod right after I finish this post.
No huge surprises this year IMO. I'm glad Daniel Day Lewis won Best Actor and it was good to see The Bourne Ultimatum get some much deserved recognition by winning a few technical awards.
I managed to stay away from the Internet all afternoon and evening today so I could watch the Oscars without having any of the winners ruined for me. In hindsight not sure why I bothered really, It is easy to forget how boring they are!!
I went and changed half of my selections this morning as I had a funny feeling that NCFOM would win a few awards. It was fully deserved although it is a real shame that There Will Be Blood was made in the same year because another time and that would have won everything.
Highlight of the night had to be Glenn Hansaard winning for Once - C'mon the Irish!!!
I should thank my agent, my producers, God, Colonel Sanders, Elvis Presley, the girl downstairs who makes my cappuccino and every member of my family for 9 generations.
But that would just be stupid.
Another historic Oscar win for the Irish though, so for the final word....
Technically, I have to stand up for Jordan, here. By 'Price Is Right' rules, which, I think everyone will agree are pretty much universal rules when it comes to these kind of situations, Jordan is the winner because Murphy went over.
Sorry, Murph. Can't argue with PIR. That was a funny acceptance speech, though.

And now my obligatory, probably seen it coming from a mile away, Happy Gilmore response...
"The price is wrong, bitch"
PIR rules do not apply in 1 to 100 and I'm not Bob Barker or Drew Carey, although I wouldn't object if you wanted to have your pet, or even yourself, spayed or neutered.
