Here she is at her best in The Dead Girl.  And no, I'm not trying to be ironic or whatever by referring to this movie. It's just that she gave one hell of a performance in it. I'd recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. I also noticed on the IMDB that she has another four films in post production.

No need Balt. No-one's acting like she's Sophia Loren. She was a young girl that died too young.

I think you should leave the speculation of what caused her death to the TV and newspapers. No doubt Fox will tell us what she could have died of.

I just heard this and thought it was some wind up.  Bit shocked, I really liked Clueless plus I'm 32, makes you think don't it.

Yes, Alffy, it does. And that's why The Nickelback song, "If Today Was Your Last Day", is a mantra for me.

If we can just appreciate each moment as a gift and not take anything for granted, it changes our perspective; although, holding this intention is extremely hard because we're constantly living in some kind of frustration. Just when things seem to be going half decent, something always happens to bring us down into our own personal hells.

Seems strange how everyone gets "something" from the "get you and make you feel rotten pot".

I only discovered her a few week ago in "Little Black Book"... She was almost unknown in France. Glad I knew her before. 'Cos I really appreciated her talent...

Plenty of young girls die before their time... It's sad life is wrapped inside of unknowing trial and error, but it is.  I'm just sick of someone dying in the spotlight, and in her case not even that, and everyone acting like they were the biggest contributors of their era.  She wasn't.  She never will be and that's that.  I don't have to sugar coat anything.  I'm sure she was a nice girl to those that knew her, but I'm also sure she had a hand in why she died.  Her insecurities are playing more of a hand here than anything and unless it's H1n1, I take back nothing.  Hell, even if it was H1N1 I don't take back anything I've said.

She was "A" girl... 32 or 33 who died.  It's life.  It happens.  When I die or you die or anyone dies for that matter we should only be so lucky as to have a billion and 1 assholes all over the world sing our praise because of it.  It's like Michale Jackson, and I do love the guy don't get me wrong, winning all them grammies... Why?  He didn't win any grammies the year before or the year before.  Why did he win all those?

Because he died.  Simple as that.  When you die you all of a sudden have all this worth that was never there before.  It's absurd.  I haven't seen any of you all talk about Britney Murphy in any of your "who's the best actress or actor threads"  I've never seen anyone of you list one of her movies as your favorite movie or even a top favoirite movie.  It's silly and absurd to think you all were holding all this admiration for her when none of you even mentioned her one time in the 6 + years I've been around here.

That's all I'm saying.  Hell, if she saved a bus load of cancer riddled kids all holding kittens from going over the side of a cliff and, on the way down, cured them of their illnesses... Then she'd be worth talking about past, "Man, she died... That's crazy"

As it stands... Only her friends and family should feel this one. Sorry.

I know where you're coming from, Balt, but I disagree. We all watch movies as we grow up from a young age. We all go to the cinema, buy the dvds, so when an actor or actress dies, it's only natural some people will be shocked, much more so than if it was a stranger in a car accident in another country.

Nobody's saying she's one of the greatest ever, just that they enjoy her work. I own quite a few of her dvds, Spun, 8 Mile, The Dead Girl, Just Married, hell, even Cherry Falls. I always enjoyed her performances. End of.

I think you'll find you're wrong on another of your points. I do remember "The Dead Girl" and "Spun" being discussed on these forums, although maybe not in their own dedicated thread.

Her best performance, in my opinion, "Girl, Interuppted". Just a supporting role but I think she showed how good an actress she could have been in that film.

Balt,

I take your point. It's a good one. And a fair one.

Celebrity culture. We almost feel as if we know these people. When Freddie mercury kicked it in 1991 I felt bad for weeks, months even, as if I'd lost a member of my immediate family. I never met the guy, closest I came was being a few rows back in a crowd of 100,000 at their last ever gig.

All I'm saying is I can't see anything actually wrong with people feeling sorry for someone dying young. I'm not saying it isn't misplaced and perhaps over the top. But I don't think it's wrong. For each their own. There's a lot worse things going on in the world.

This is, after all, a site dedicated wholly to film scripts. It would be even weirder if an incident like her sudden death passed without a word.

And I agree... If the person in question has touched you in some way, sure... It's only natural to feel remorse.  I'm speaking for myself.  She hasn't done anything to ever turn my head and she's never stood out from the crowd to me.  So, for that, she's a stranger and that's the road I'm taking with this.

Dan O'bannon... He contributed to me in someway as a writer.  I grew up watching Aliens and Return of the Living Dead.  I loved the guy.  I was affected when I heard he passed.  Same with Bob Clark.  I felt remorse because he was such a talent.  I'm not taking anything away from anyone who actually feels this girl did something for them but as for me... No.

Sad she died.  Sad anyone has to die.  I really am, but it is life and the meaning of it will be kept that way long after we expire to be sure.

That's too bad. Can't say I'm shocked though. Not to say I expected her to die but celebrities have been dropping like flies this year. It's still tragic indeed but the "wow" factor was lost on me a while ago.

Like Balt, she didn't have a significant impact on my life but I have watched more than a fair share of King of the Hill and will always remember that trademark hysterical crying. She wasn't that bad in Sin City either. I still gotta check out Spun at some point. I've heard good things.

I think I'm with Baltis here. I've never heard of this girl. I didn't recognize her face nor name. I'm however always sad when young people die, but she really meant nothing to me. I'm amazed at how some people idolizes celebreties. Michael Jackson comes to mind...

When it come to celebs, the only time I was sad was when John Candy died. I really liked him as an actor and thought he seemed like a nice person so I guess I can understand. Just this girl was an unknown to me.

No need to feel sorry, Balt. You are correct, I believe. I did not know this actress, because I'm naive when it comes to movies and television, but your words speak millions to me.

The POINT that I want to raise is that you said:

"I'm sure she had a hand in why she died."

We are entering into some very deep and dark territory here and I need to speak on it.

Back when I was suffering a whole pile with what has come to know itself as a staph aureus infection, (but nobody knew except that I had an extremely high anti-nuclear antibody count and it looked like it was systemic sclerosis), I was suffering so badly I tried to kill myself.

I failed, as you can see.   I'm a real loser.

I never wanted to die, but I was suffering so much that I really have to say, that I wouldn't want anyone. NOT ANYONE!!!!! NOT THE WORST MURDERER OR WHOEVER TO  EVER EXPERIENCE what I have went through.

However, do I blame God? No. Not in the least. Because I understand 22/7. And you'll see it more in the future as I write it into character work.

The most important thing here that I want to address is that:

None of us "chooses" that yes, "I want to be a blond anorexic with a desire to buy expensive shoes". Or, "I want to be a woman that wants to give birth to thirteen children and collect artwork of Dali". (That would be me).

Or,

"I want to be an alcoholic writer that works too hard, practices too much piano and can't get any rest." (That would be me too).

Whatever it is that we "are", aren't we always wondering "why"?

Why aren't we what we believe we should be? Why can't we do enough? Run longer? Jump higher? Do things faster?

It's such a great struggle, but to be in this virtual world with all of you is a great blessing. We're all "Very Strange" indeed.

Luvya and I really thankyou for your individuality,

Sandra

Quoted from Baltis.
Sad it happened, but c'mon... You all are acting like she was Sophia Loren.  She was, at her best, a B-liner who, fell into obscurity and back drop roles.

Who's to say she was done? The girl could have vanished for ten years and made a huge comeback. She had the potential, and I know I would have liked to have seen it happen. You give up on people too easily.

The whole point of a thread like this is to celebrate the person's life. Are you seriously trying to pull rank when it comes to celebrity deaths?

All I have to say is, when I die (knock on wood), and there's a dedicated thread here on this site paying tribute to my life, do yourself the favor and just stay away from it. People might be nice and say I was a talented writer that was taken too soon, and if the response to Brittany Murphy's semi-successful acting career bothers you this much, I shudder to think what you'll say about the response to me and my status as a writer!

But you're not... So I probably won't have an opinion either way.  It's like someone asking if I like green grapes or red grapes better.  That's how important you are to the fold.  & I've never read anything of yours that would lead me to believe you were a talented writer.
