Hey guys, I'm close to finished the conversion of my Psychological Thriller "Evanesce" from a screenplay to a fictional novel with the intent of going through the self publishing route to gain exposure for the story. I have had several design for the Book Cover completed and have selected my favourite eight( out of them. I would appreciate if you could please take a look and vote on the one you feel is the most enticing and makes you want to learn more or want to read the book. Please follow the link below and any feedback you leave would also be appreciated. https://www.freelancer.com.au/contest/poll-MTI0MjU5OjI=Regards Alex |

I, too, voted. Regretably, the rest of the world voted incorrectly.

Out of curiosity, how does the website which these have been posted on work? |

Self publishing is a nightmare and is unlikely to gain you any exposure. Why not go through a traditional publisher? |

Left my votes on all of them. The fog effect on 23 looks a bit overdone to me, but I liked both 23 and 93 the most. I can't choose between the two since they seem to give such a different view of the possible tone and contents of the book. Since I haven't read it, I have no idea which could be a better fit. Best of luck with the novel. |

It's not as easy as that, Dustin.
No traditional publishing agency gives you the time of day unless your novel is presented to them by an industry professional. An Agent. And gaining an Agent is about as simple as climbing a mountain with no hands. In other words, impossible.
Self-Publishing is the way to go about it now. The only crutch about it is you have to do all the promoting/marketing yourself.
So if you're passionate about your work, you'll do everything you can to ensure it succeeds. If you do nothing and just self-publish one night without doing any marketing at all, it'll flop.
-----------------------
Good luck with the book, Alex. |

Which is an extremely massive crutch and seems to defeat the purpose here. Writing a novel to promote a screenplay when you will be self-promoting the novel anyway seems a little pointless. The idea of writing a novel is to get it published, make lots of sales and then sell the idea of the screenplay. You're not going to make lots of sales through self publishing. Start at the bottom... get a few shorts published, win some competitions, gain credibility. Till then, stop wasting your time... IMO. |

I went for the favourite. There is a real dynamism to the dying character, though I think a dark cover would be better. |

I agree. The problem I have with the "dying character" one, is that the composition of the cover isn't good. Huge text, image, huge text again. It doesn't look good as a composition. The dark one looks more like a book cover. It fits better. IMO. |

Cast my vote too, and commented on all. Apparently I selected one of the favs - do have to say though Alex it looks to me a little 'Mummy' inspired.
Also it seems my real fav was one of the discarded picks - number 10. It may be a little generic but I like the blue/black tones and it definitely looks like it might be a scary read to me.
One more comment - I don't like the definition underneath the title. I don't feel you should be giving a 'this word means this' directive. Let the reader find out for themselves - it's a teaser in itself if the potential reader is ignorant of the word.
Good luck Alex. |

Thanks all for your votes and comments.
Had a busy weekend so just catching up.
93 and 23 are both my favourites and I am swaying more towards 93 ATM though have an amended copy submitted with a few improvements since my post for votes.
Self publishing is much easier than you think though you need to do all the work yourself, like getting the artwork done, putting it all together and marketing it.
I have a background in Engineering and also used to run my own marketing business so it's a cakewalk for me. Also Amazon self publishing give the author 70% of sales, and even at a low price per sale, the return is much better than through a publisher.
It's not all about the money though, I feel if I get the novel out there then I may one day get a call from a prominent producer with an offer for the screenplay. "WE ALL LIVE IN HOPE"
Thanks for all your feedback and I'll post a like to the book in the new year.
Regards Alex

Marketing takes money. So long as you have plenty of that (which the publishing houses do), you'll do fine. John Grisham did it and a few others have too. Good luck. |

Thanks Dustin, As I said I know the marketing industry well and will promote it through many contacts that I have including radio, television etc all at a cost-free rate. I also have editor contacts in magazines and may look at a write-up. It's all about who you know these days. I will also use the internet pipelines to channel the message so hopefully the word will get around. Nothing ventured nothing gained !!!! Alex PS I used to do PR work for television and Radio stations. |
