Seriously, after forcing me to write tales of throats being slashed and necks being stabbed with scalpels, I feel turn about is fair play. All you thriller/horror writers need to pony up and write some chocolates, roses, hot cocoa and happily ever after. I give a big thumbs up for the rom-com idea. Any Nora Ephron wannabes out there?
Scripts Available: Christmas Joe (Holiday Drama) Every Time It Snows (Holiday Drama) Happy Holi-DNA (Holiday Romance) Let That Pony Run (Family Drama) With Love, From Romance (Holiday Romance) Essex (Historical Drama)
Shorts: Santuario (OWC Writers' Choice) Death (OWC) Savior (OWC)
Kathy, you might be waiting a while for a RomCom challenge. A February OWC in all likelihood.
Which I might add, I'm all for. We had a terrific one years ago where you not only had to write a script but also the lyrics to a piece of accompanying music.

I got my first Crappy Mug on a Rom Com OWC, the craziness of that is never lost on me haha.
I think there were like 40 entries for that challenge.

Check out FOR NOW when it rotates into the banner up top. The prompt was literally RomCom, chocolates and roses.
I'm just saying...we thriller writers got game.
(Honestly, the OWC forced me into new genres, including horror. It's made me a much better writer even within my preferred genres of thriller and absurd comedy. It's painful, but good for you!)

Yes, I agree. I recently likened these OWCs to a personal trainer that forces you to use muscles you never knew you had. Anything that shifts your brain into “create” mode is well worth the effort IMO

Trust me...RomCom was NEVER on my list. But, glad I've written a couple. Now when I write an absurd comedy that includes a relationship, I've got at least a tiny bit of experience.
You still have to be who you are as a writer. But, yes, your trainer example is a perfect one.
Also not on my list: action, western, scifi, noir, historical, drama, animation, adventure, fantasy...I have multiples of each in my portfolio now. ALL because of OWCs. Shoot...I now have a lead on a feature, solely because an OWC pushed me out of my zone. (Long shot...nothing to tell.)
We KNOW you can write a RomCom...
Alright, alright. I'll stop. I'm just a firm believer in OWCs now. I preach to anyone who will listen, and continue preaching even after all the tomatoes have been thrown and everyone has left.

Sorry guys, couldn't help but treat this as a quiz question
Romaction -- "Romance in the Stone"? Thrillomance -- "Fatal Attraction"? - Bit of a Michael Douglas vibe going on Romslash. -- "Scream"? - has elements of romance Horromance -- "Bram Stroker's Dracula"? - Happy with that. Romscience fictionmance -- "Passengers"? - Loads of love, loads of space. Torture-pormance -- "Hard Candy"? - Little light on romance, but the intention is there
