I clicked it.  Apparently it's a free website countdown timer.

Yes, if you click on the actual timer you're only going to get the software.

Nothing to link to yet, but it usually means something's afoot.

I know nothing. (said with evil laugh)

That Avatar shot of yours is straight from a horror movie, Zack.
Always creeps me out.

Where's the cute puppy gone?

Clearly it's a countdown timer to commemorate the victory of Bobby Fischer over Boris Spassky to become the world chess champion.

Or maybe the discovery of the Titanic wreckage?

Seriously, after forcing me to write tales of throats being slashed and necks being stabbed with scalpels, I feel turn about is fair play. All you thriller/horror writers need to pony up and write some chocolates, roses, hot cocoa and happily ever after. I give a big thumbs up for the rom-com idea. Any Nora Ephron wannabes out there?

Scripts Available:
Christmas Joe (Holiday Drama)
Every Time It Snows (Holiday Drama)
Happy Holi-DNA (Holiday Romance)
Let That Pony Run (Family Drama)
With Love, From Romance (Holiday Romance)
Essex (Historical Drama)

Shorts:
Santuario (OWC Writers' Choice)
Death  (OWC)
Savior  (OWC)

Big fan of Nora Ephron here!

Kathy, you might be waiting a while for a RomCom challenge.
A February OWC in all likelihood.

Which I might add, I'm all for.
We had a terrific one years ago where you not only had to write a script but also the lyrics to a piece of accompanying music.

I tried writing a rom-com once. No one here liked it. "Too much blood!" "Too much vulgarity!"

Tough crowd.

I got my first Crappy Mug on a Rom Com OWC, the craziness of that is never lost on me  haha.

I think there were like 40 entries for that challenge.

Check out FOR NOW when it rotates into the banner up top. The prompt was literally RomCom, chocolates and roses.

I'm just saying...we thriller writers got game.

(Honestly, the OWC forced me into new genres, including horror. It's made me a much better writer even within my preferred genres of thriller and absurd comedy. It's painful, but good for you!)

Yes, I agree. I recently likened these OWCs to a personal trainer that forces you to use muscles you never knew you had. Anything that shifts your brain into “create” mode is well worth the effort IMO

Trust me...RomCom was NEVER on my list. But, glad I've written a couple. Now when I write an absurd comedy that includes a relationship, I've got at least a tiny bit of experience.

You still have to be who you are as a writer. But, yes, your trainer example is a perfect one.

Also not on my list: action, western, scifi, noir, historical, drama, animation, adventure, fantasy...I have multiples of each in my portfolio now. ALL because of OWCs. Shoot...I now have a lead on a feature, solely because an OWC pushed me out of my zone. (Long shot...nothing to tell.)

We KNOW you can write a RomCom...

Alright, alright. I'll stop. I'm just a firm believer in OWCs now. I preach to anyone who will listen, and continue preaching even after all the tomatoes have been thrown and everyone has left.

Ant, I looked back and PK started the talk about RomComs.
I have no clue what it is, but I doubt it's that.

That said, there's no need to be disparaging.

Why does the blend of Romance and comedy get so much of the limelight? What about other genres that want to blend with romance?

Can we have...

Romaction
Thrillomance
Romslash
Horromance
Romscience fictionmance

Feature

42.2

Two steps to writing a good screenplay:
1) Write a bad one
2) Fix it

No! It is forbidden by the great and powerful elders! Silly Matt. Tsk tsk.

Seriously though, I'm with Matt. Rom-coms are overdone!  Let's mix it up a bit?

How about a Torture-pormance? Too much?

Sorry guys, couldn't help but treat this as a quiz question

Romaction    -- "Romance in the Stone"?
Thrillomance -- "Fatal Attraction"? - Bit of a Michael Douglas vibe going on
Romslash.     -- "Scream"? - has elements of romance
Horromance  --  "Bram Stroker's Dracula"? - Happy with that.
Romscience fictionmance -- "Passengers"? - Loads of love, loads of space.
Torture-pormance -- "Hard Candy"? - Little light on romance, but the intention is there

Paul, I finally got a chance to find this short and watch.  I watched it twice.  Only comment I have is:  I loved it.  So sweet.  So bittersweet. **wipes tear**.  So glad an OWC prompted you to write such a touching story and credit to the filmmaker for helping it come to life.  Thanks for  suggesting the watch.  Again, I loved it.

Thanks for the comments. So happy it hit home for you. There's a lot of me in that one. Not to get too sappy, but I wrote it for my wife, in case anything ever happens to me, I wanted her to have a message she could always refer to. The red dress was the signal to her--and she got it. (Not sure I've ever said that publicly.)

Again...nice to hear it connected with you. Thanks.
