Why can't I submit a regular screenplay? Not for the contest, just an everyday screenplay. The post said we would be able to upload it on the 20th, but I'm not finding any luck...
Seems to me there is a pretty small group of people reading these. I've read half, but plan on reading all. Except for that one that wasn't even in courier.
There were some good ones in here, but there were tons that, seemingly intentionally, didn't meet the criteria. I'm not talking about dramas with comedy, but flat-out comedies with no drama. And I could tell there were a few in here to simply waste everyone's time, which is a pretty sorry display IMO.
So, some quite good ones, but all the shenanigan nonsense brought the overall quality down. Maybe gbrate saw that horrible Cabin submission which drove him to go on his rant.
So Greg, which ones you think have put their effort into this? I've read 25, still 9 more to go.

Greg, I have to seriously disagree with you about the Cabin script. IMO, there was definitely some thought and effort put into it. The way it tied those 2 classic scripts together at last was ingenious. I just wish that Elijah had returned from the grave and grunted a few times at least.

I think for us who have been here for a while and can remember what the OWCs used to be like, this one has been a disappointment. The comments are short and often not very helpful to those who did make an attempt at this. I sound like an "old" person complaining how it was better in the old days, but when it comes to the OWC it definitely was. At least to me. Back then, when there were fewer entries and everyone did their best, the comments were proper reviews for the most part. I think, I learned the most from those comments on my entries. So yes, I am very disappointed. For all of us who reads all of them, it takes a lot of time that we probably would have liked to spent doing something else.
I still need to work my way through these, but I'm going to recommend reading these ones right now and I know there are others I will also recommend later, but this is a whack load of scripts to process.

For the awesomely bad, my vote has to go to Wolves at the Door. I still couldn't tell you what it was about, but it's the first time I've ever seen "etc., etc." used as dialogue. That's some twisted genius right there.

Mythos will be my next read. I think I'll be paying a lot of attention to Ryan. And I like that name. Hope R & V get pregnant and I'll recommend it if they have a son. If it's a girl, maybe Reanna. I like that name too.
Wolves at the Door also has the to be the first script in which I've seen a character described as...
"He looks like a combination of Richard Gere, Harry Hamlin, and Richard Grieco, but with worse hair, and not as rich or popular (even though Richard Grieco isn't very popular anyway)."

I suppose my intentions weren't good doing it in the first place however I had no idea things would be this bad and I wish I'd never been a part of it.
I did however write a serious entry. I was going to write a third but didn't have time to make it good. I'll get around to it in the future.

I was keen for this challenge, as the drama genre was way outside my writing comfort zone. so I started brainstorming, throwing ideas at my wife. I had an idea about a vegan chick who goes on a camping tour and when the guide is injured and they're stranded, has to contemplate eating their horse. Another was a vegan and carnivore adrift in a life boat with a corpse the only food source. I didn't do any actual wrting just processed them upstairs.
But as is my wont, my comedy antennae were clicking over, developing a secondary script. That became the priority(as usual) so I thought I'll get that down and maybe do the lifeboat one as well. But life's business got in the way and i only submitted the funny one (which was Food for Thought - the cannibal one) on the last day. I'll still sort of argue this script had elements of drma in it - the tribe were facing a conflict. Its just that i had the characters speaking funny.
Oh, and to back my original suggestion of canning the anonymity, lets go for it.
Here is my story. I was out of town the entire week of the OWC. On Friday night a couple of hours before the OWC was to close, I was encouraged by some posters to try and write a script.
Thats what I did. I wrote it in 52 minutes. So I named it TAKES TWO.
I know it sucks but I wrote it completly without even rereading it. I submitted it and emailed Don to make sure I even made it in time.
I don't apoligize for it. I simply wanted to see if I could pull off a script in an hour and I did. Horrible formatting, grammer and all.
What shocks me, Is I actually have seen reviews that did see what I was trying to do. And for those of you who thought is was a pisstake, it wasn't.
I haven't read yours yet, but I don't hold the last minute stuff against you. I pretty much always write mine at the last hour. Mine are always a serious attempt even if not brilliant.
Good to see you guys confessing and especially realizing it went too far. One pisstake like No Meat would be ok, but trying to read all of them when 50% seem like mockery it got very annoying.
Pia, You can read it but there is not much there. I wanted to be able to take the week and put together a clean script. That just didn't work out. Instead, I was in a border town doing what I am paid to do with no time in the evenings at the hotel I was staying at.
Funny thing happened though. On Friday night, when I got home, it seemed do-able to put my script together no matter the reviews. I have to admit, it was fun.
Despite the poor script, I enjoyed this challange very much.
I'm think that, being that everyone had such a shitty time with the OWC, we should cut back on the number of them we do a year. Skip the summer one (we're almost there, anyway) and just wait for the Halloween one.
Hopefully, people will take it seriously and participants will be SS members and not outsiders.

I disagree Phil. Clearly people like the OWC. Remember how dead it was here before this OWC?
Gotta agree with Pia, although I'm an advocate for having everyone's name attached to their scripts from the beginning. who cares about the guessing game. OWC is awesome, getting bigger, and it's not a competition. It inspires people to write in unfamiliar territory which makes them better writers in the end.

Pia, Coding, I must admit I didn't leave feedback on all of them. I'm new here, so I didn't know if that was the thing to do. If I didn't, that probably just means I looked at the other reviews and someone said the exact thing I was thinking. But, over the next couple of days I'll go back and try knock em all out.

I don't suppose you can bottle everyone into a theme. Instead, isn't it the real challange to put a theme out ther that turns a persons mind to a new direction no matter if they stay withen the bounderies or or not.
I think your theme was a good one. I also think based on the diversity of the scripts, you should be flattered. It's not every theme thet provokes this type of responce.
Be it serious or comedy, you did produce almost 40 scripts.

This is the first time i have heard this angle presented regarding how the OWC is pervieved.
It was simply my intention to encourage Phil regardless of the scripts that can be placed in the "pay no mind" bin.
I assume (and I may be wrong) that a OWC is to provoke a writers thought proces to be pushed outside of his or her "comfort zone". In which case Phil did an outstanding job.
Some writers took this to mean(in my opinion) it should not be taken seriously simply because it might have been to far from a subject they understand. In which case sometimes humor is their best way of expressing themselves.
I may be the minority here but I feel Phil put a great one out there and some humor simply comes with the subject matter.
Humor is good, but the script itself needs to be within the designated genre. Sometimes the script is an all-out comedy when the genre is supposed to be drama.

Phil has said many times that this was based on "what if a producer told you to write this". Maybe it got lost somewhere... I just think if he was a Hollywood hotshot, everyone would have done their very best and that was the original intention with the OWC.
