Oh, I know. It's the sign of the OWC coming... but the constant mentioning of percussion instruments (besides just mentioning "A drum..." is where I sense that may have a bit to do with the contest itself. Just my crazy conspiracy theories, though. =) |
You may well be on to something. Could be a case of misdirection. The plot thickens cause you just never know with this lot. |

Phil sounds like Sam Spade sprouting dialogue from a Film Noir. Is that a clue? |
People lose teeth talking like that. If you want to hang around, you'll be polite. |

Clearly, the whole OWC will be an ode to the great Linda Ronstadt.

Interesting the takes on "The Drum..." be.
My mind always goes to the obscure. Not knowing about previous OWC's or further connotation, I first came up with a picture of Tito Puente and and an ominous 4/2 on the kettle. Tambo, Tambo.
"Why, if you dont stop that infernal drumming, we'll drum ya's outa' town see. Yeah dats it, outa' town."
I hope its a topic I can deal with.
And the beat goes on...
.. |
| But thats not where the story ends.... theres twists and turns and a coupla' bends. |

My last chance to toss my two cents in.
Make it a challenge...but NOT a puzzle.
The idea should be to stimulate writers outside of their normal comfort zone. But if they are not going to end up with a story they want, why would they break off time from their usual writing?
So don't get carried away with conditions. That limits creativity. And it makes this more of a puzzle to be solved than a challenge to come up with a good story.
There should only be a few items on the checklist. Resist the temptation to add more.
Just my two cents. Carry on. |

The checklist should be similar to when Jeff is thinking of asking a girl out:
1) low budget
2) rated X
3) no more than three characters(at the end of the night)
4) no guns(except his)
5) 6 to 10 pages(or minutes)
And remember...it's not a contest! |
