I'm in the process of developing a pilot for an episodic drama (Lord of The Flies/Lost/Survivor/) with Zodiac and Astrological themes. 12 characters 6 men and 6 woman (ages and previous relationships T.B.D.) survive a disaster and end up on a small island. The island that these survivors are on is basically a Nexus of Astrology..
turns out...each of these survivors was born under one of each of the zodiac signs and they embody the basic traits of these signs. (the island holds clues to this...)
as the story unfolds the longer these survivors stay on the island they more intense the traits of their sign become... effecting their relationships and hindering their chances to work together in order to survive..not only the elements but eachother.
They story will eventually take on Tribal elements and the line in the sand is drawn between the two leading characters and their followers
looking for a cowriter/cowriters to help write the pilot and further develope the story... |

I am sure you are not planning an exact copy of "Lost", H.D., but boy, it sure as heck reads that way.
You can distance yourself from that little series, I think, if you set your drama somewhere other than an island, but still isolated. Surely there are alternative scenarios that you can explore.

Perhaps a small resort in the Rocky Mountains...or an entire ghost town abandoned but for these 12 people. |

i was tinkering with the idea of taking it up to space. put them on a space freighter... maybe involve some sort of trip through a worm hole or black hole... something like that could work i think
PS Jack & Jill 1st draft is done.... i have a mentor writer friend of mine reading it for feedback..... |

i would definitely, without a doubt, get it off the island. I liked the idea of a space frieghter, good sense of isolation, although it might a bit gimicy if no other aspects deal with science fiction: aliens, space travel.
-perhaps they are in a city or small town where all the other inhabitants have just vanished (hookey I know, but just a starting point). -stuck on a boat adrfit in the middle of the ocean. - i liked that guys idea of a hotal or something in the mountains. - you could do something like the film CUBE where they jsut wake up in a building... once again you wont be totaly original in your initial setup but at least it wont draw so many obvious ties to Lost being how popular it is. |

Hope you don't mind some input from a newbie... Given the astrological theme, locating it in space might work well. The abandoned spaceship thing was done to great effect in Event Horizon. Depends if you want creepy or mysterious or both. Or how about an abandoned planet with the ruins of different civilisations? You could relate these somehow to the different signs perhaps, using the astrology symbols for each of the signs as "clues" or markers... Good luck |

How about some global tragedy which leaves the 12 of them the last people on earth...? Bit far out but I think it could work... |

Working on the space theory, what if their main propulsion has gone out, but they have enough to keep up life support. So they are stranded, floating about in deep space waiting for rescue, probably months away from the nearest ship, in a suffocatingly close space. Especially if their freezer tubes have failed and so they have to be awake for all of it.
Just a thought. |

Yeah. I say go with the Space thingy. They all wake up from cyro with no memory of how they ended up in space. They don't know how long they've been asleep. They don't know where they are. And it's not some small ship it's a massive vessel that is floating adrift in space and they can't pilot it. The ship is taking them somewhere and part of it can be them trying to figure out where it's take them or something. So when 'them being on a ship' starts to get boring. You can have them arrive at their destination.. bwa ha ha.. |
