Since Goose's "Midnight Movies went over so well - and there are so many zombie scripts and writers on this site I thought why not do a anthology that consist of a number of 20 min "high concept" inventive zombie scripts.
Like the scripts on Midnight Movies they'd be 20-30 minutes and anyone can join if they want.

Sound cool?

Sounds kind of interesting. If enough people show some interest I might throw one in there (even though I'm trying to get out of that genre for a while).

And for the Zombies:

I'm using the term very loosely, they just have to be living corpse" but they don't have to follow the standard "Romero" style.

Just as someone who has wrote a trilogy of Anthology's and am working on HALLOWS OF HORROR as we speak...

A Zombie anthology wouldn't gel so well, not to me anyways.  I don't see where the draw or tie in would be.  A zombie is a zombie and a situation wouldn't be as diverse or varried, to me it seems like each one would be the same or a continual push foward and not a seperate flow for each.

I dunno, it's your ball of wax to shape and mold into the next "Kivchang" but from where I stand as someone who has done both Zombie and traditional horror movies, this would be very low key and quarky in a lot of ways.

When you make an Anthology movie, can I ask you what your goals are?   Anyone can write one, that's not the point, but your stories have to be vastly different in them or they will go over like a led balloon.

Take for example "CREEPSHOW"  I could use my "WALSTIB" anthology, but I won't...

Creepshow was diverse... all had 1 underline theme to each and what was it?

REVENGE!!!!

Fathers Day -- Revenge
Lonesome Jordy Veril -- Revenge
Something to tide you over -- Revenge
The crate -- Revenge
They're creeping up on you -- Revenge

But, in all the same underlined themes... you have what?

DIVERSENESS << Is that a word, if not it is now >>

No two stories were alike... You had a different set up and scenario for each and every story that it made you forget that the underlined theme in each was in fact the same in each.

It's smart writing, it's intellegent work and movie making.

I'm just saying that... All zombies, across the board, 20 to 25 minutes a piece... that's gonna be going strait to the porn theater or 2 dollar bargin bins.

I do, however, not want to discourage your goal... however, I do wish to open your minds up a bit about what it is you are doing and what it is you want and could be doing.

C.K.

Good thoughts and good nite, finally!!!!!

Hey, Mike, I'll write one if you want. Although I need to figure out a synopsis first.

Thanks.

I have a new plan for this -  the anthology is going to be numerous stories that take place during the same infestation.
Therefore we can get numerous perpectives about what's happening.

Sound cool?

Once everyone has a script in and this is posted I'm going to look into places to submit it.

So, just a heads up - anyone's who's interested may want to get this registered or copy righted.

The opening's pretty cheesy but at the same time enjoyable in a tongue-in-cheek fashion.

The linking segments are going to be basically straight action/horror with a few comedy bits thrown in.

I like the idea of 4 or 5 zombie shorts liked to one event... or set and time.  That's an interesting notion, it is... and if done right, by the right people with the right minds and talent, you could possibly pull this off.

However, with that said... it would have to have continuity with the story before it, sort of like my "WALSTIB" trilogy... It can't just be, Zombie story A -- Zombie story B -- Zombie story c, it can't be.

You'd have to make sure each writer got together and really worked this out to make it all gel well.  5 stories, all different cahracters, same city, different locations and events... My mind can wander on that thought, oh yeah!

You might have yourself a 25 to 30 page short out of me on this one.  I'll keep in touch on this one.

The way you had it, no... but if you're talkin' connection and interaction between each story, then yeah, it's new and it's something I'd do by myself.  I don't like doing things that have been done too much, and this is an idea if you're thinking the way I'm thinking then it's a new and innovative concept, really.

You could even have two writers pair with eachother to write 2 stories, 2 writers to write the other two and then you could read all 4 and write your story in conjunction with the other 4 to tie them all in.  See how it could work and be new and fresh and innovative?

Good thoughts on this one~

The stories will blend -

Example - if one character is rushed to the hospital that will blend into another short that takes place in a hospital.

Same with a newscast - that may blend into another story.

I agree that if the writers collaberate and put their imput that this could go over really well.

Already some of the best zombie writers on this site have expressed interest in writing for this.

Personally the idea came about when I was thinking -most zombie flicks have entire towns being overrun but only focus on a select few people.
The anthology is trying to get the entire perpective and different angles.

For everyone who wants to be involved in this - make note of landmarks and characters that may interact with the general populance.

I.E if you have a journalist in your story PM the other writers about them. Or if there's a landmark and geographical areas.

St. Looooooouis Missouri..

Cause if so..  I have 4 nearly 5 short zombie scripts for you to choose from..

In the horror section see Relapse of the Dead..  I wrote it as 4 short films and put them together..  And if you are intersted in using those..  I can easily change them to coinside with someone else's script.

You live in St. Louis, LOL

I live in Kansas City, strange world... small at times, really small.  How's the arch?

I think you should base it in a small mountain town... it's big enough to populate and have the up to date current settings, but it also has the looming mountains and pine trees around to give you an isolated feeling, like... if it were to be bombed or nuked or whatever... Life would still go on around.  Maybe give into the fact that the outbreak might be containable, if everyone works together.

I dunno... I see a mountain-like back drop, large pine trees around, sprawled out city, not a concrete jungle... somewhere like Oregon or Seattle... to the extent, maybe.

Anyways, I'm pretty interested in the way this has evolved and seemingly overnight.  This has potential if you get a group of hard rock talent on board, really.  People who know the genre and people who can scare you with words and thoughts.

I think you're gonna have to set up rules and guide lines -

What writers stories go with what
What writers need to be paired together
How to tie them all together
Do any characters from one story blend into anothers story, if so, you gotta lot of work in that cause the other writer might not know that character and will need to read the respected story.

See, it's a task at hand, but one 4 or 5 writers could easily get together on and pound out and make brilliant.

I have full faith in R.E. to make something gel, so you got one money shot for sure.

Good thoughts~

Sure..  I'm in a talk with a producer at the moment who is interested in the script..  But if that all goes under I want to do something with it.. and I like your idea..

So yeah put me down..  I could write something else as well..

I was working on a script called Shudder were a guy is trapped inside his large apartment complex as a zombie epidemic spreads.. and he decides to just stay in there.

Or another one where prisoners are left behind as the epidemic starts and they make the prison the fortress and try to defend it from the undead..  I like the irony in that story..  they use to want to get out real bad.. and now they decide to stay..

anyway..  i could easily turn both of these into shorts and use them to someway..  rawr..

The writers can decide who they want to collaberate with.

But as just a suggestion here's the writers that I think may work for the horror film.

Balt, Andrew Roby

R.E Freak, Shudder

Well, since I'm paired with Shudder, how does this sound: If he decides to go with the second story, mine would follow the guards after leaving the prison, while his would follow the guards. They'd take an armored transport bus and try to escape the city, only to encounter a road block, at which point they are wiped out. Sort of a way to present both sides of the coin. The prisoners would turn the place into a fortess and maintain their own form of order, while the guards (the authority figures) are wiped out.

And just so everyone knows, I'll be offline most if not all of the rest of the week. If you need to tell me anything, just send me a PM and I'll read it as soon as I'm back.

I just began on an opening - sort of a ode to "Tales from the Crypt" it's incredibly gory but in a tongue-in-cheek fashion.

BTW - Does anyone have a suggestion for the name?

Currently it's under the working title:
"City of the Damned"

For a title Bruce suggested
"Blood of the City"

Personally I think it'd make a good subtitle
I'm thinking the title could be one word.

I think that since the stories are now take place at the same time - this could become more of a collaberative effort then an anthology? The stories would stay the same - except they'd be going back and forth.

Sound Cool?

Is this still in line with 20 to 25 page shorts?  Cause if so, I got me a fantastic one I want to write for it.  I'm calling it -- "Echo's of the living Dead"

And would like to have it be the last story of the 5, if at all possible.  Let me know what the deal is here, cause I got a pretty original bit lined up either for this or my own HALLOWS OF HORROR, of which I've been constructing for the last 2 months with some interesting little shorts.

Good thoughts~

Although I may combined the stories into one screenplay with numerous storylines.
Whatever the writers think would work best.

I just had a thought - what if we write this as a sequel to "Return of the Living Dead"

So the title would be:

Return of the Living Dead 6:

Blood in the City

Sound cool?

I still am looking for shorts to combined into the film - since both ROTLD 4 and 5 are coming out within a year of each other.

It'd have nothing to do with the rest of the series except of the for the chemical being used by a scientist.

Here are the writers who have expressed interest in writing for the script:
I was thinking that the listed writers below could collaberate with each other.

Bruce Snyder, The Goose

R.E Freak, Ryan Plegge

Andrew Roby, Cary Krepps

Tyler Higgins

Personally I'm pretty exited about this - since a lot of these writers are acclaimed on this site and are damned good writers.

How about 'Saga of the Dead' It was the name of a project I abanoned which was pretty much the same thing that we're trying to do right now..  A bunch of zombie themed shorts..  I just didn't get around to it..

Soooo.. my vote is to call it 'Saga of the Dead' and each short film will have its own title of course...  like... mine will be called 'Death Row' or 'The Condemed' or ...something like that..  aye?

I don't know if you misspelled St. Louis on purpose..  but its ...St. Louis  not lois.. heh

Since its in St. Louis..  someone make a really... really.. short 5 page script about someone being stuck in the arch during the zombie invasion..  cause for those who don't know.. .there is a trainy type ride to the top of the arch...  bwa ha ha ha ha..

Call it 'Gateway to Hel!'

...or if all the stories take place in the st. louis area.. call it 'Gateway to the Dead' or of the dead... cause st. louis is called the gateway to the west... meh...  just an idea..

Sounds cool - although I do want continuity in the shorts.

I'm not sure if I want this to be a "Return of the Living Dead" sequel or a stand alone horror flick.

Either way it doesn't matter until I get the drafts in.

My brother suggested I change my screenname.
It's actually a name he came up with. lOl.

I signed up on Simply Scripts with "JASBSB", then changed my screenname to "Michael Birch", and now "Ziggy W."

BTW, the picture on my avatar is the "Voice of Doom" from "Cannibal the Musical" - in case anyone was curious.
