Anyone else a fan of this TV show?  So far, for me, it's going great.  I am a huge fan of writer/director/actress Lena Dunham.  She wrote, starred in and directed an indie-film called Tiny Furniture and ever since have been in love with her.

It plays on HBO.  The plot basically revolves around the lives of four New York twenty-somethings.  It's Sex and the City, modernized for the people of today.  It's partially based on Lena's personal life.  And is much, much grittier and and fun.

The writing is amazing.  Like, this girl just has such a good knack for writing amazing, important characters you care about.  Lena is one of the main characters, her acting is amazing, like it's she's so quirky and innocent and badass.  The "look" of the TV show is awesome too.

I thought the first season finale was a little random, but so far, after five episodes of the second season is awesome.

There must be more fans for me to get excited with!

I watched the first couple of episodes during the first season.
The awkward humor was a little too random for me.
Vague slices of an actual character wrapped up in pithy banter.
It was cool for a little while, but I wanted more.

Have to say one thing the creator got right for sure.
If you want to create a modern successful left of center comedy series...
Delve into characters with deep seeded sociopathic tendencies.
She did get that right... But Sunny in Philly does it sooo much better IMO.

HATED the first episode. But I'm glad I stuck with it. Now I love it (and I'm not ashamed to say it as a heterosexual male).

I do find the show to be a bit self pretentious at times. But that's usually part of a character's arc.

F ucking hate Booth. Hate him. And I'm not sure if he's written that way on purpose or not.

Furthermore, hate the British chick. She's too spot on. Have no sympathy for her whatsoever.

Any show that takes place outside of NYC tends to suck.

Also, the show is very predictable. You know what's going to happen to each character way before it happens.

Overall, a show of the times. I love Dunham. Love that she's fat and I love that they show her boobs all the time. But be forewarned, the characters in this show are NOT likable. Pretty much a bunch of jerks.

Oh and my thoughts about tonight's episode? Really lackluster. The OCD thing is kind of cheap. Hannah is way too mean to her parents and it makes me hate her even more.

I think HBO's post-Sopranos decline has hit bottom with this show. I watched the first six episodes of season one and just couldn't do it anymore.

I remember really enjoying episode 1x02, which had something to do with one of them needing an abortion, but after that it's just a load of pretentious, melodramatic crap. It has no real insights into young people, it has nothing new or interesting to say about sex, or any point of view really. It's just a random mish-mash of awkward situations and truly unlikable characters. Larry David is a lot better at creating shows about assholes that we actually like. It goes from being way too serious about itself to almost being a parody of white-American privilege with no consistency. It's not funny enough to be a comedy, but it's not dramatic enough to be a drama.

I like Lena Dunham, I think she's a good actor and a talented writer/director. I'm rooting for her, just not this show.

HBO is lucky that Game of Thrones is the epitome of awesomeness otherwise they'd have basically nothing.

I can't live the buttoned-down life like you. I want it all. The dizzying highs, the terrifying lows, the creamy middles. Sure, I may offend some of the blue bloods with my cocky stride and musky odors. Oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called "city fathers," who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards and talk about what's to be done with this Homer Simpson?

I've had the unfortunate privilege of being in the room while this show was on the TV, and I can't stand it for the same reasons as Matt.

The show now appears to be a means for Lena Dunham to satisfy her desire to make out with attractive men, and subject the world to her exhibitionism.  I can't fault her though.  She's doing what men have done for years.

I watched the first two episode of this and my only thoughts were "WTF?"  The show should be called Droning On because that's all it was.  You have to wonder how this drivel was green-lit...

Well, that explains it.

I think the show is brilliant.  My wife and I enjoy it and we think it very much captures a lot of our life from not only our twenties (tho we had waaaay more sex than they do on the show), but also some aspects of what we are going through now with our own children.  There is some really creative and honest writing on the show.

Yes!!!  Thank you, Don.  You speak how I feel and it is liberating.  Well, I guess the show is not for everyone.  However, like the show or not, there's no doubting Lena has got mad talent.

I enjoy the show, but think it's relatively mindless. I think the writing on HBO's Veep is far superior without falling back on the constant gratuitous sex scenes that Girls seems to just plug into every episode to get your attention. It's becoming exhausting.

Dunham is very connected in the industry through her mother's NY show biz friends. I wonder if her writing would see the light of day if she weren't.

I think the sec scenes are there for a reason.  Most 20 year old girls have sex a lot, all the time.  And Lena is trying to get that across to the audience.  These girls are real and the sex is there because she is portraying them in a real light and is not trying to sugar coat anything.

This show connects with A LOT of my female friends. So you've got to give credit where credit is due. It's a show of the times.

However, Lena is sort of back sliding. She's trying to portray women in a real light. But real women do not look like Marnie. I feel like she's giving into too many hollywood cliches.

Last few episodes have me a bit weary...

Reported today that ratings this season are down from last year, and Dunham is quietly shaking up the writing staff.

Hmm, I thought she was the writing staff. How terribly naive of me.

I think, having caught up with all the episode, I can see why the ratings for the second season have gone down.

The first fives episodes were okay, I thought episode six was good, seven I loved, and eight was okay.  I think shaking it up will do the show some good.  Freshness.  Some more insight maybe.

I agree that that is a crazy low number for ratings.  Not even one-million.  But like I said.  You either like this show, or you hate it.  Clearly there's more haters.  But if 12 episodes have been ordered for a third season there must still be something in this, there's still an audience, I just hope they continue to watch and have hopes for this show.
