I am having some difficulty with this topic. Are we supposed to type our scripts in Courier? Or Courier New? I noticed that on word that there is no Courier, just Courier New...

Sorry for so many questions... Just want my scripts to be done the best they can be.

I use Courier New and I'm sure most writers do now. And I'm not sure how much it matters anyway... they're basically the same font except that Courier New looks smoother for me and clearer.

I may be an idiot, but I'm no idiot.

Thanks Sean...

I feel like such a jerk that I haven't reviewed anybody's script that I said I would. : (

I'll be sure to get on that ASAP.

You're welcome.

But you're in school (in the same grade as I am) and I know what you mean when it comes to not getting to anyones script. You're busy, and I know how you feel.

But now that you mention it, I think I'll go read your Vibrations script...

I strongly suggest you wait. There is a page missing, so I'll let you know when I send it in again. As we speak I am reading episode 1... Nice stuff. We are getting a little off topic on here. Hehe.

Oh well.

Courier is actually preferred over Courier New and Courier Final Draft is even better.

Here are the differences:

Courier:
--Advantages: holds its size, good line spacing,
--Disadvantages: Does not have a full character set (no " for example), not a true type font, newer systems may not have since it is an older font

Courier New:
--Advantages: Contains all characters in the ASCII table, very common on modern word processors, better emulation of typewriter font than Courier
--Disadvantages: Has a tendency to try and scrunch itself at the end of lines to fit more on a page, wide line spacing gives the illusion that your script is longer than it really is

Courier Final Draft:
--Advantages: Contains all characters of ASCII table, line spacing emulates that of typewriter, holds its spacing at ends of lines
--Disadvantages: Only available if Final Draft has been installed
--Side Note: This is neither an advantage nor disadvantage, but if you save a FD document on rtf form and open it in Word, it will retain its Courier Final Draft font.

There you go.

Another disadvantage of Courier New that I've seen is that it appears lighter when transferred to pdf.

CELTX only has courier, and I've noticed that the pdfs are much darker.

Yes, whenever I've done the elipses or quotations using Courier, it winds up as a black vertical rectangle, but when I convert it to PDF, the regular stuff is there, so...I don't know.

And Courier New, while it looks nice on paper, does stretch scripts out.  Scorsese is 113 with Courier and 130 with Courier New!

Be excellent to each other
