Also, while I'm here, everyone please feel free to join in on the Skype chat tonight, and listen to some of your fellow members bash the choice of genre and theme without mercy.

The action begins at approximately, 8pm Central Time.

I was just thinking that 11:59EST sure came early this Friday, but I was fooled as well. This thread's going to have a lot of traffic before 11:59 actually hits. Of course, I on;y have to wait till 10:59 since I'm in central time. That means I get it at the same time as everyone else, but it FEELS an hour earlier.

Well, I'm certainly pleased with both the topic and genre. This should be interesting....
I hope there's more than just "Alien" Invasions. Though that's the only type of invasion that comes to mind when I think "Horror". Though I suppose one could go back to the 50-60s movies with things like  Invasion of the Killer Ants/Leeches/Bees/etc. lol. Can't wait to read the entries as well as write my own. I would've thought this board would be more lively. Where is everyone?

Very nice.  I don't think there's ever been a challenge that specified two kids as pivotal parts of the story.  It'll be cool to see what everyone chugs out.

I just learned the genre this Saturday morning since I was working last night, but I'm happy to hear the genre. I think many of the young people will be especially pleased.

Although I'm not particular, I think this suits a wide "halloweeners" audience.

Yeah, interesting challenge. Should be a varied batch of scripts on offer.

The wiki page says YA is mainly aimed at people 12-18 years old, so are we aiming for scripts lower than an 18 certificate?

The last three Harry Potter films.  That's actually fantasy not horror but it's the best example of young adult I can think of.

It's been a long time since the Oct OWC has been Horror. And there was a huge cluster-fuck of insanity about it last year when the genre announced was "Comedy". So Horror is the best way to go.

I know what you mean, Phil. I'm having a hard time condensing my idea into 12 pages. The way I'm going right now, my script would be 15 pages long at the very least.

I almost thought of not entering as I was perplexed as to what to do.

But now I've finally thought of my idea and it is a great idea.  Oh boy I'm excited.  Now I have to deliver.

The writing starts tomorrow.

I came up with a couple of ideas (not to say I'll be entering) - both of them are really good ideas but they seem like they will take longer than 13 pages to tell. We'll just have to see how it goes.

I came up with an idea then reread the theme and topic to make sure it fit. I started thinking of the show Goosebumps that used to come on Fox. Then I remembered Are You Afraid of the Dark? that came on Nickelodeon. I used to love those shows but I don't want to water down my story so i'm going to be aiming at the 17yo audience (who are allowed to see R-rated movies btw hahahahahahahahahahaahha)

I think you're being a little to literal with the theme.  You can have it take place in the Halloween season.  The decorations are up on people's houses; the stores have been selling them for some time now.  And pretty soon, before you know it, Santa will be here--wait a sec.

Young Adult Horror - the age range is pretty broad "marketed to adolescents, roughly between the ages of 12 and 18."  If it is geared to 17 year olds, then I wouldn't consider it Young Adult.

I've kicked one back due to excessive use of the "F bomb".  The theme/plot of the script can be edgy, but excessive f bombs would not make it YA.

I doubt this will be anyone's best work. The fun is challenging yourself to DO your best under a small amount of time. Ofcourse with more than a week it'd be amazing..but a week worth of writing something completely new is just a fun way to keep you on your toes.

Question. I'm playing with how to use the theme of there being an invasion. Could I have it impemented on page 5 or 6? Is that still okay?

Like heres a normal halloween, then BANG. Invasion time. Is that okay?

I have no idea what impemented means.  Do you mean implemented? Regardless.  October 31st.  Invasion.  Everyone - two kids = hoax.  Two kids - know not hoax.  Halloween is optional...

If the question is "Does everything have to happen on October 31st?"  The answer is 'no' as long as the following is covered October 31st, a community is being invaded, everyone (except two kids) thinks it's a hoax, two kids know the real truth...

Mike, this is more of a statement rather than a question.

My bad.  I didn't realize we were limited to interrogations.

How does it feel to wear two pairs of glasses at the same time?

Can you send me a bottle of Merlot?

Do you find me attractive, in a heterosexual way?

I've wrote twelve pages.  Think that's enough?  It's pretty solid as it is.  I don't want to write an extra distracting scene to make it thirteen.

I'll glance over it tomorrow before posting, but I'm pretty happy as it is.

How hard do you think it's gonna be to cut back 50 pages to 13?  I kind of went over the page limit.

My script ended up being 25 pages. I have no idea how I'm gonna trim all that off. Oh well, if I don't get to finish it in time I'll just post it outside the OWC and its restrictions in the future.

Okay...I'm joining in.  This will be my first official screenplay EVER!!!

I understand that it's "halloween" time...two kids...can there be more but two prime antagonists?  It is after all Halloween and kids seem to come out of the wood work?

http://www.myspace.com/mbcgirl

I love words and the fact that when the page is blank...there's nothing there until words are formulated in my brain. Those thoughts...rushing through my viens and out my finger tips, find "life" on the page.

When people and places come to life...that to me is exciting.

Write a 13 page or less script, in proper screenplay format on the Theme and Genre stated above.  The script must be received by Friday, October 17th, 2008 at 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time.  Please submit your script here.

Okay...based on the information above it says 13 pages...but over on the other thread it says 12...which is it...hurry please

Good luck all.

I cut my script from 34 pages down to 7 pages by simply taking out the girls' shower room scene.

Of course, I'll be saving this scene for a future script.

It's not just my first OWC...it's my first screenplay, EVER...so it's a double thrill for me.  Putting my stuff in there with Pia's...especially with "juicy" scenes that include a shower scene...now that's crazy on my part...Absolutely nothing in mine...not even a rubber duck getting wet! *wink

Pia...you have all the guys going on here...I may be a girl but I'm just going to tell you...you make a very "Hot" Countess Zadora!  lol

Hope you enjoy it...but of course I can't give anything away right now...you'll just have to figure out which one is mine ) Now that will be a test! lol  Especially since I haven't ever written anything before...on that note it might be easy to spot. *wink*

Your day is almost over...are you 8 hours or 9 hours ahead of Arizona?  Enjoy your evening

P.S.  My parents talked about Newcastle when I was growing up...I think my God Parents lived there...my parents are gone so I can't ask them...

I never guess the writers of the scripts right, so I'm not even going to try this time around. I'm off work all next week so I should be able to read them all before the names are announced.

I'm not sure about Arizona but I'm 6 hours ahead of the clock on here.

I only got 5 pages in between work and home life, and I have to leave again for work in an hour. ;-(
No script from me this time, but I have five days off in a row next week, so I can read them all.

Oh, and Pia I'd hide that picture if I was you. Ha ha ha.

It would be easy to interpret the word wrong...because the way it is in Wikipedia makes it sound like our stories should have been trying to trick everyone...not convince everyone because we know the truth...so I just tried to follow Don's interpretation of the content requirements.  It is a little confusing.  Who knows...I may be wrong too

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoax
A hoax is a deliberate attempt to dupe, deceive or trick an audience into believing, or accepting, that something is real, when in fact it is not; ...

Hey Don...mayb e you can shine a little light on this latest puzzle ...but I basically took it from what you had put in the beginning...in the description below I think I interpreted it to mean that everyone thought the hoax was not real and only the kids knew that it was....

Young Adult Horror (YA definition here)

Theme:  It is October 31st and a community is being invaded, however everyone thinks it's a hoax.  Two kids know the real truth...

It's open to interpretation. And like Don said, it's for fun so feel free to follow your inspiration.
