With the discussion board being down and all, it feels like I haven't been around here for weeks.

How y'all doing?

For me it's business as usual: family life, looking after my kids and going to work

However, I am sweating on a phone call to see if one of my shorts is going to get produced. I've actually decided to shoot it myself provided a friend of mine (whose star is on the rise down in here in Oz) agrees to be in it. I sent him the script last Thursday night, so hopefully I'll hear something in the next few days. I hope I'm not jinxing myself by talking about it.

As an aside, I’ve almost been in two fist fights in the past few weeks. The first time was with a couple of drunken punks, on the street, who made the mistake of saying good evening ladies to me and one of my buddies. The second time was tonight when a guy I know thought he’d be a smart arse and slap me around with a few back handed insults. I dealt with this passive aggressive asshole by turning into an aggressive asshole. Which pisses me off because I had him beat on logic and then blew my cool when he wouldn’t accept my point of view. I really need to ease up on the coffee.

I've moved into a new flat and am looking for a new job. No internet, sky tv or tv aerial yet so I'm only on here at work at the minute.

Writing-wise, I'm starting the treatment for my first feature and starting to write with a mate this week.

Haven't been in any fist-fights but I have lifted several pieces of furniture up two flights of stairs so I'm still dead hard

I've been working a lot, gardening, too. We have a rather large garden this year, so I managed to keep the family in tomatos while most of the country had the recall.

As for writing, I'm stalled at present, but I did rewrite my short Tattoo back to the scarier version, sent it in to American Gem, and made the quarter-finals so far...

Oh, and I rewrote Monster's Contest. I sent it in to Don.

I bought new car. Well, new to me. 'The pretty blue" 2004 Cavalier Sport and it was from New York.

No fist fights for me, but I came pretty close to lifting up a watering hose at work to  trip someone who ticked me off.

Phil, I hope you all had a great time!

I think Andy should be made the official Ambassador of Simply Scripts.  She's always traveling around, meeting with us.

She may not like the anagram though....

Anagram????????????? Enlighten my dumbass please!

I should be made Ambassador! I'm losing count of everyone I've met! I did indeed meet up with Phil (cheekymonkey), again, and Martin (Dr Mabuse) in the space of a week!!!!!! In 2 countries no less!!!

Do I get an SS membership card with points I can collect?!!!!!!

We had a great time and I'm pleased to say Phil is as nuts as he was in 2005. Martin was very cool too and it was so nice to put a name to his face!!!!!!!!!!! I need to post pics asap!!

I wish I could see you all at the meet-up but I am already coming in October and can't come out twice, nevermind. I would like to get-together in Chi-town to meet up with Shelton and others over a nice meal at Fogo De Chow and then a spot of dessert at the Cheesecake factory, sometime in the future! I must meet our main man DON too!

Btw, a group of students  asked me about my short BELOVED PHIL for deal. I sent a short contract to them and I'm waiting for an aswer. That's all

Fogo De Chow is the only time in my life when I've eaten out of anger, and it was fantastic.

As for what's up on my end?  Nothing, nothing at all.

Wrote my SoulShadows script...   hint, hint...

Rewrote a bunch of shorts for various things.

Filmed a promo for a reality show on skydiving yesterday.

Working on funding for a documentary on women in aviation. Looks good so far. Working out a budget for Lockheed-Martin!

Started pre-production on Old Wounds. Apparently there will be a SAG strike soon so we need to hurry to sign someone for that role.

Went to the Smokies with my family on vacation. Had a good time. I LOVE the mountains. Gas prices were high so one of the twins guided us on her "amazing cell phone" to a gas station where the cheapest gas was... A one pump town in SC. SCARY! And it was only 10c less than everywhere else.

No gardening for me, but I did go outside to smell a flower that my daughter told me I just had to smell. 30 seconds later my hair was tangled up in that bush and she had to cut me lose with scizzors. (sp)

No fist fights for me either, but I have got argumentative on Skype lately which might explain why so few people have shown up Friday nights lately.

I guess that's part of what I've done lately.

The trip started out in Edinburgh.  And then we spent a night in Manchester, where we met with Rick.  And the trip finished in London, where we met Andy.

Some people gotta learn it the hard way and if that includes a broken nose and a few loose teeth then that includes a broken nose and a few loose teeth. Don't sweat it.

What've I've been doing? Work, family, football, beer, re-watched the entire Sopranos series, re-read Heretics of Dune, gave my car a nano treatment, took my wife to a real fancy Italian restaurant.

Funny enough though, I didn't write a single word while the board was down.

Good news. He said he’ll act in it, so now it’s full steam ahead. My aim is to shoot the film and enter it into next year’s St Kilda Film Festival which accepts entries between October and January.

If anyone is interested in checking out the script "Maverick Shish Kabob" click here: http://www.simplyscripts.net/c.....k+Shish+Kabob/#num11

Any additional feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks for the support Sniper. I appreciate it. But I ‘m a little bit disappointed with myself. Sure the guy was a tosser, but I made a fool out of myself by going off at him in public.

Would you rather have invited him back to your place?

Thought not

And congrats with getting the actor onboard - good luck with the project.

Btw, Chris, it's kinda weird. You're Australian and you dig Danish movies. I'm Danish but work for an Australian company. What are the odds?

Since the school is on summer, I agreed to coach this summers Football team.

I'm still kind of pissed off that one of my students failed his exam, I mean its' P.E. I gave these guys a packet with every single question on the final, and we went over it in class.  These kids had the answers and some people still bombed it.

I mean, when I was a kid, I pulled this crap too, but I mean when you're on the other end, and when you do your best to make it easier on the student and they still don't give a crap enough to study a two page packet, well that's just a direct kick in the family jewels, y'know?

Other than that, I submitted my short "Nolan The Security Guard" to the De Anza screenwriting contest and got 12th place.  So I at least balance out the good with the bad.

Nothing could be better here! Today marks my second day of summer vacation and  i'm recovering from the first! So far I've been pretty busy, got a new job, well my first job as a deli boy wahooo, ahha, it's fun though! Hope it won't consume too much of my summer! I've been squeezing in some late night script writing on my series, i just love writing series, good practice too! but overall, i'm doing great, it's summer vacation what could go wrong?

Thanks. His name is Daniel Frederiksen. He's starring in "Ten Empty" which is the Aussie flick I posted a link to on the upcoming movies board. So if it does well (and I suspect it will) then having him in my short is going to be a real bonus. So now I have to get cracking and put a cast and crew together.

Speaking of Danish movies I just rented "Exit" which stars, my man, Mads Mikkelsen. I'll watch it this weekend. Mads has been the discovery of 2008 for me. I even watched Casino Royale the other day because he was in it. I'd given up on watching Bond movies ever since Roger Moore left the franchise but CR was really good. It had better character development and a harder edge than the usual Bond fluff. Obviously the Bourne franchise has forced the Bond franchise to lift its game.

That would be "how to spot a noob." No offense, but I did find it amusing that too many people don't know these two very well know boar members. While Phil and Andy have both responded so it's very clear, I would be willing to wager that Sniper wasn't alone in his query.

I'll bet if Phil had a sock on his head (let the dirty minds wander...now!) and Andy was wearing a pirate hat, everyone would have a better idea.

Not much new here.   Still farming out resumes and looking for work. Finally got my tiny severance from my former employer, idiots had delayed it for well over a month. But now unemployment benefits are kicking in, so that's good. Just wish we hadn't refinanced the house before I was laid off lol.

Of course the "honey do" list keeps growing since I'm not working...geez I'd rather be back in Pakistan again than till up one more freaking flower bed.

Falling behind on writing - am 53 pages into the first draft of a new script and it's just been sitting there for a month...haven't touched it. Also am behind on reading scripts, I have one promised I need to do this weekend.

It's just so easy to let things slide.

Let's see ...got the fabulous Planet Of The Apes Ultimate DVD Collection - the one that comes in the ape head

- it was an Amazon.com Gold Box deal for only $55 so I had to splurge. Now I've posted a few collectables on E-bay to pay for it.

Started reading a few books that had just been sitting in the bookcase...haven't finished any of them. Meh.

13 feature scripts, 2 short subjects. One sale, 4 options. Nothing filmed. Damn.

Currently rewriting another writer's SciFi script for an indie producer in L.A.

Not been around since the boards went down, Let's just say that my life suddenly got a bit more complicated and messed up for a while and the boards being down kinda made it easier for me to disappear quietly.

Although I do feel very bad about bolting mid-Soulshadows without sending in a script, I am very sorry Michael, I did feel a bit guilty about that, but the thought of the deadline was giving me even more stress than I could probably deal with at the time. Though that sounds really stupid now it made sense at the time.

Anyway, not written anything for ages and am desperate not to being an ex-bad screenwriter, i actually miss trying to be a writer, it was starting to be a great release for me and something that felt worth doing. So gonna try and get my head back into it and write something, and man have I got a bucketful of inspiration from my ups and downs of the last couple of months. Maybe the One Week Challenge, we'll see anyway.

So probably missed out on a few things, Seen Mike Shelton sold a script, wow that is brilliant news. Not sure if Sniper has finished Variant Z yet, will have to go and see what else I may have missed.

And again, I am very sorry about Soulshadows, I hope I can be forgiven.

Cheers Gary

Seriously, I could start a Simply Scripts photo album. Maybe I will!!!!!!

Well, you could, but it'd be lame because there wouldn't be an pictures of me.  By the way Andy, theres this car that parks outside my house almost everyday and the license plate is "Tanuki3".  What are the chances?

As for what I'm doing, it's nothing much.  I've started a new screen play that I think will turn out quite well but is giving me some trouble right now.  I'm in my last week of work (day camp counselor) I have orientation next week at Hofstra, directly after that I'm going to be a leader at a wyldlife camp, and then directly after that I'm going on a road trip with my friend.

We're actually making a documentary on Cryptozoological creatures and supernatural phenomenon, which is ort of similar to an old screenplay I wrote: The Search for the Great American Jackelope, but we're only doing Wisconsin and Illinois.  After that I'm just hanging out until school starts and I move on out to Long Island.

Still looking for employment. This month has been a wild ride and I've been away from here, haven't done any writing at ALL. Bad me.

Things hopefully are back on track now ( as they say in The Right Stuff, "maintain an even strain") and hope to contribute here once again.

And write some more.

13 feature scripts, 2 short subjects. One sale, 4 options. Nothing filmed. Damn.

Currently rewriting another writer's SciFi script for an indie producer in L.A.

Chris, I got a smile from your true-life story about kicking a*@!. Calm down my son, be one with all. (wink smile - since smileys won't work).

I have been writing articles, working on novels and doing a whole lot of critique work.

On the script side, I completed the draft of a fantasy script last April, but when I started developing it into a novel, I decided to shelve the script for the time being until I get more things straightened out with the novel.

I've been working with Steve on "The Big Fade" and I've had the pleasure of watching this script evolve tremendously from its beginnings. I really LOVE this script and it just keeps getting better!

Looking forward to this round of OWC entries.

Sandra

Hey all,

Just got back from Canada a week ago, went to Toronto for 3 weeks for a family wedding.  Beautiful country you Canadians have (I'm from the UK by the way).  Too many commercials on your TV though, I'm guessing it's the same deal in the US.  Speaking of commercials you seem to have alot for 'male enhancement products', what's with that?!

I'm kind of at a crossroads in life right now with regards to what to do for the future, one possibility and something that my family really want, is to actually live in Canada!

As a result of the various stresses of life lately I've pretty much fallen off the writing track, but as always, my mind is never far from my writing.

Although I won't be taking part, I am looking forward to the OWC entires.  All the best with your scripts for those of you who are participating.

I'm okay. Writing my script, listening to the "soundtrack" that I feel would be right for the scenes in it if it were a movie.

Who knows? And our "Tim Horton's coffee is said to contain nicotine."

Maybe it's a conspiracy.

I definitely sensed something sinister about Tim Horton's; people seem to go crazy for it there!

Maybe it's run by aliens, who are taking over the world one country at a time via an inconspicuous coffee franchise, which will turn all who taste their brew into a slave... yeah, I'm going with that idea!
