I know it's already 2022 for some of the great SS writers, so Happy New Year to them and to all as the clock ticks over in whatever timezone you are in!
Happy New Year, and belated Christmas SS! Bit of a hiatus away from the board, and the computer (and society for that matter), but in my defence, I’ve been consumed building a fun little animated art piece/doorbell/sing along thing for no apparent reason… ok, maybe for my (Disney fanatic) kids. That being, we usually take the fam to Disney World annually, but because of all the travel restrictions etc. we haven’t been in a few years, so I thought I’d just do something creative in my spare time over the holidays to mess with their heads.
It’s more of a tribute to Mary Blair actually, the artist whose creative endeavour inspired a lot of Disney artwork we see in the rides and the movies. One thing that always blew me away was the simplistic construction of the earlier rides, such as Peter Pan; Small World; etc… it’s basically plywood, glitter paint, gears, and rotating motors.
Still, the old adage stands… “if you build it, they will come”.
Hopefully fans out there of early Disney theme park nostalgia will get a kick out of this, lol.
Gum, as a fellow Disney fan (and DVC member), I absolutely love this, great work!
Thanks kindly for the positive feedback, Anthony, truly glad you appreciate this fun little piece! Made with sweat, blood, and gears, lol.
I’m not a Vacation Club member… yet (jealous), being about 3,229 km from Orlando makes getting there a bit difficult for us, and Disney L.A. is 3,155 km. But, I do know a few secret back doors into the Orlando Magic Kingdom and Epcot location that make getting into those two parks way easy, bypassing the huge security checkpoint crowds… let me know if you ever plan on going there (Orlando) and I’ll give you the skinny, lol.
Re: the artwork, my kids were like; “what the fuuuuuuuck!” So yeah, they got a kick out of it too. Just between you and me (and anyone listening), to be an ‘Imagineer’ is my absolute Dream Job. Every time I’m on a Disney ride, while everyone’s oh’ing and ah’ing at the glitz and glitter, I’m busy looking at the ceiling and floor to see how everything’s moving on tracks and pulleys, and I’m like… “oh, I see what they did there… clever bastards.”
Happy new year to you all, and a belated Merry Christmas.
