Hmmm.

Soul II Soul were not my favourite band. But I did watch them make a big impact. A good few years ago now.

If I were to write a zomby script I'd call it something like 'Back To Life'. As S2S saw fit to think that was a good enough subject to write a hit song about. They were right. That particular song usedta fill dance floors. The girls liked that one. A lot.

Still, I say weird stuff now and again.

I'd avoid terms like 'undead', 'rising' etc as they have been used. Lately too.

Vampires are immortal. Zombies aren't. But both can die. They have to. What would a hybrid of a vamp and a zomb be like. Zombire? Anyone? No? Vambie? Er, perhaps not.

Now. I have to say my prayers before I go to sleep. I'll be praying for Kate Winslet to come round with a nice bottle of red. Or white, depending on her mood. What's the chances?

Then you can either create scenarios that each of you will pick for an independent story  which is sort of the way Please Remain Calm was done or you each go off and do your own thing in the universe.

Speaking of which, is PRC ever actually going to be made? I've been waiting excitedly for that to come together for about 18 months now...

(Here's the PRC thread, if any relative newcomers wonder what it is. Not that I'm that much of an old hand myself!)

[EDIT: I see on Duane's Myspace page that he's calling it a feature now. It's also - still - in pre-production. At what point does a project fall into development hell?]

Duane is the only one who can answer that question.  Last I heard he was trying to find people to direct some of the segments so he doesn't have to do it all himself.  He probably feels like he's bitten off much more than he can chew.

And I can understand that, it's easy to feel overwhelmed when you have a bunch of productions in your queue.  Though I kind of think the opposite of Duane in that I don't think you should ship it out, you should just get serious and do it yourself.

Anyway,  I still think that it's a good way to approach a collaborative project and The Dark OWC was nearly modelled on it but I changed my mind and decided to go full anthology.

In that video he sent out in March he said he was aiming to have them up by Christmas - here's hoping he meets that. He seems like a good guy, and I do hope he manages to see it through. I remember reading and liking yours, and there were a bunch of other good SS people involved, too. It'll be champagne popping time when they finally go live! Or at least, pat-on-the-back time.

My episode of your anthology looks like it's going to be the first script I've had produced. I've had a nibble on a couple of other shorts, and even gave someone permission to film Nothing Left to Say (haven't heard from them since November), but as of yet my production total still stands at 0.

Looking to you to break that duck, Michael!

And I already have half of the VOs for yours and the bloke who did them gave a fantastic performance.  Still waiting on the other VOs but I expect the chap I chose for Simon will do a stellar job.  So yours might be one of the stand-outs.  By the way, I still need that single line from Jake done.  Fancy recording it for me so you can be in your own piece?

It's good dialogue.

Na, thanks. I'm not fond of the sound of my own voice, and I want to be able to show it to people without having to fight the urge to fast forward through that moment. I'll try and find someone, though. Good to hear it's going well. Looking forward to seeing it!

So like a short story collection about zombies based on a group of local peoples and presumably highly differing situations but the same essential story line?

It could get all very samey if you aren't careful. It's zombies, so you get with that tag chases, violence, blood, lots of savage people. Having 6 20 minute stories of what would basically be the same event could be tricky, so you would have to set out the ideas and plot behind each story first. Hell, if you want to get it done quicker Green you just be all dictatorial, set out a base plot/characters for the thing and have the rest of the writers and you work from there.

Hope I'm not getting the wrong end of the stick here...
(PS: An interesting idea could be a violent uprising of the people in some politically stricken country, leaving certain tourists to escape or die. It could be very zombie like, with the addition of molotov's, bats etc, anger and passion brought to bear on the city around them.)

Zombies have been done to death.  I'm surprised that vampires have lasted this, to be honest.

Phil, as soon as they, (Hollywood), can make Mummies cool and edgy... Romantic, even, you'll see them shoved down our throats too.  Zombies and Vampires need to go away for awhile.  What kills me is how far removed they've gotten from their origins.  Zombies are faster and smarter, no longer the lumbering opportunist they were.  Vampires no longer sleep in coffins, rather they wear too much eye make up and hang out in young girls bedrooms while they sleep.  Sad and strange.

To be fair, though, I seem to remember the zombies in Night Of The Living Dead being at least smart enough to use blunt objects as weapons, which, so far, no modern filmmaker has done (that I remember). I remember one of them used a rock to break through Barbara's window, and didn't the little girl zombie stab her mom?

But I agree with what you're saying. The reason I like old school zombie films so much is because the human characters tend to be more dangerous than the supposed "monsters" outside. That Cooper guy annoyed and scared the living hell outta me in both NOTLD versions.

Nights of Terror A.K.A. Burial Ground had Zombies using weapons to a pretty, successful degree too.  Garden of the dead, not so much.

@ Phil, not a huge fan of Craig's but he's got that spot on.

I was forced to watch half of Twilight last week. I'm still upset about about it. Fecking girly shite. Loved the bit when the camera nearly fell over while swooning at the lead. Arse cheese biscuits.

28 Days Later modernised zombies. It'll be hard to top that with them.

The Mummy tried to do something with mummies. It ended up laughing at them.

American Werewolf still rules regarding our hair friends.

They've redone Frankenstein so often I've forgotten which one's good. DeNiro & Brannagh's wasnt. I prefer the orginals.

I think it's time for someone to come up with something new. Or just do what JK Rowling did and revamp a load of old stories.

Vicious flesh eating leprechauns anyone? No? I'll get me coat...

What about animal zombies? Say a forest near a town had been subjected to a virus which had then spread through the creatures - wolves, deer etc. It could even spread to the zoo...

That's a rubbish idea isn't it?
