Hi folks,
I'm working on my first screenplay and could use some help on a few issues. I'd also like to get to know some other screenwriters.

Welcome, Dave! you've come to the write place.
Peeps are extremely helpful here, provided you are willing to take their advice.

Welcome to SS! One thing you can do is search around the site to see if someone had a similar question, and check out the advice they got. As you’re working on your script, take a look around the Work in Progress board and the Unpublished Scripts board in your genre. This will give you a sense of what an early-stage spec script looks like (as opposed to the finalized shooting scripts that are easier to find online), and give you an opportunity to offer your own feedback. It’s not exactly quid-pro-quo here, but people are more like to read for people who read if that makes sense. Don’t feel rushed to post anything if you don’t feel it’s ready. We have a great bunch of folks helping out in the Screenwriting Class and Work in Progress boards to help with “not a full script yet” questions. See you around, Dave.

Welcome. Joining this site is the best thing you can do to improve your writing IMHO. I've only been here 4 months-ish. And the learning curve I have experienced is phenomenal. There's a section you can ask for help on technical issues - or you could post up the first few pages of your feature in the work in progress section and ask for help with your issues there. Good luck Matt

Hello Dave,
Are you taking that deep plunge?! I did and there's a problem because I can't swim!
Frank gave some really good advice and what I would add is:
Read and critique a lot. Much comes from that alone.
Read books on the subject.
I recommend:
Your Screenplay Sucks by Willian M Akers
Just keep writing et ley et and be patient with yourself and others.
Most important: Have fun!!!

Thanks, all! I'm having fun writing my screenplay, but it's funny how emotionally draining working on it can be, like real life drama. Maybe for my next one, I'll write a romantic comedy.

Dave, welcome to the board. My advice; visit often. And don't just try to figure out who are the most experienced and listen to them. Really think about what everyone says and try to draw your own conclusions.
