I liked a couple of his songs but didn't like Thriller or any of that. I read a really good bio of him a couple of years ago, done by someone who actually knew him. It had been updated from 1992 and was fascinating in showing how he basically never had a childhood, etc. so his descent into weirdness was to be expected.

His career had gone downhill steadily for years now. That's always rough when someone's status fizzles out like that. I'm so glad the Beatles broke up when they did - they were still top of their game.

an interesting bit of trivia - the first kid he molested wrote the filmed script for Robin Hood:Men in Tights a couple of years later.

Didn't he own the rights to a good portion of the Beatles' catalogue?

Yeah, I think so. I could never work out how Jacko could be broke if he did own them.

I read a post on a Beatle fan site today that he left the rights to Paul McCartney in his will, which was reported ages ago.

This is just so very sad. I was up when the news broke last night. I couldn't get to sleep properly either. I was really excited to see him in concert next month - I had tickets to go twice having never seen him perform once. London would have embraced him back to the stage gloriously. He would have loved it, as would we. It's like he was about to embark on another chapter in his life. Just so sad.

What really pis*es me off are the cruel and inappropriate comments about MJ. What gets to me even more is that people can't even wait for any amount of time before posting/speaking them either. Have people no respect? Sorry, but this really, really grates on me. I'm all for freedom of speech and you don't have to like anyone, ever, but when you can't even wait a respectful period of time before making disgusting comments then it leaves more than just a bad taste in my mouth. No dig at anyone in particular, just my opinion in general on this type of thing.

How dare the multiple media outlets be able to claim that he passed away BEFORE, YES BEFORE the hospital can??????? This is absolutely disgusting. I can't think of a better word. It's totally disrespectful and all about breaking the news first instead of waiting for the hard facts.

I'm so annoyed right now. And I'm upset still. I didn't grow up buying all of MJ's music, I fell for him more when I'd got Moonwalker on video (I know it wasn't the BEST film ever but whatver!) and was introduced to it properly then. It breaks my heart how cruel people can be. He didn't always live within the "normal" boundaries as others do, but that's who he was. End of discussion. The rest, I believe, is irrelevant especially at a time like this. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

What bothered me more about the media is that some used it to take shots at him and show unflattering video and talk about his trials because they had lots of time to fill.

For those in the TV and Music industry this is yet another excuse for them to exploit someone.

Who cares if he owned Neverland Ranch? If he still had money? If he delayed his tour a week? About his drug problems?

That's the kind of stuff they drag up after he's dead? Yet when he's alive just a week ago nobody could care less about this stuff. Why report it now?

I usually have no opinion on these threads because I'm not good with fake sympathy.

Because it'll sell more papers and commercial space now and that's how they make their money. News is a business. Not a community service.

Not too sure about the fake sympathy comment, Wes. Sure, if you don’t feel anything about the passing of MJ why say you do, but I think some people, myself included, feel genuinely sad about his passing.

On my way to work I was listening to the radio and they had a MJ tribute. I sang along.

I understand feeling sad if the guy did something to effect your life but if you just say it because the thread exists it is fake sympathy.

I am a fan of his music and will continue to be one.

He did a lot for a lot of people. I am simply saying that if you disliked or just didn't care about the person before why all of a sudden care? Does that make more sense?

If I started a post and said Japanese Wrestling Legend Mitsuharu Misawa is dead, nobody would reply because you don't know who he is and don't care. Even if I said he died in the ring and was only 47. (That's true by the way)

I am not saddened by his death. I am just shocked -- I mean, geez! It's Michael friggin' Jackson, people! Gone, just like that!

I can't say I feel bad for not caring about his death. He wasn't exactlly a nice fellow, not in his last years, anyway. But he was a hell of a talent.
