Anyone actually like this shitty excuse for a movie? Very surprising.
I personally thought it was boring. Not scary. Not funny. Just boring. First of all, you've got a very very tired premise here - that would have been okay if they had given it a decent atmosphere (like the TCM remake) but no. Instead you've these "characters" who were so annoying you were just hoping they would get off'ed as quickly as possible so that this movie could be put out of its missery.
Because this movie sucks on pretty much every level, I'm starting to wonder whether or not they made it this bad on purpose - and failed. Sometimes a movie can be so bad it's actually good - definitely not the case here, this movie's so bad it's actually just...bad.
Down in the hole / Jesus tries to crack a smile / Beneath another shovel load
Each to their own and all that, but there have been no less than 11 previous films before. If you didn't know what you were letting yourself in for, it's really your fault, not the films.
It does have some problems, but the first twenty minutes were outstanding. The latter part of the film was the only part that let it down, at some point you strangely found yourself routing for Jason again, something that always seems to happens in films of this type, but they had managed to counteract earlier on.
Quite why they'd carry a murderer all the way to the lake to push him in was a bit odd as well. They were basically incriminating themselves in their friends murder.
But all of that aside, it was an extremely enjoyable slasher film. It seems that some people expected Othello...
The Killer Cut DVD is even better than the theater version. The new versions only like 1o minutes longer, but there are a ton of alternate camera angles throughout, so really there must be at least 30 minutes of new footage. One thing that bothered me in this new version is Whitney's escape scene. It's a bit pointless. I get the feeling that we're still missing quite a bit of footage. There's also an alternate barn scene where Jason gets his mask that works SO much better. I have no idea why this scene wasn't used for the theater cut. Anyways, if you liked it in theaters, check it out.

Zack,
How do I know which version I've watched? I've only seen one. I'm guessing it's the Killer ut version because Whitney escapes half way through with some wire from a GPS? Fits with what you are saying.
What happened with the mask in the original? In the one I saw, he got it when he killed that weed-smoking hick.
Can't speak for anyone else but I expected to be - if not scared, then at least to be put at the edge of my seat or, at the very minimum, an elevated heart rate. The only thing that was on the edge of my seat was the drool rolling off my lips as I was trying desperately not to doze off.
You mention the first twenty minutes, by that, do you mean the Jason's-mother-losing-her-head-scene or the "marijuana expedition" opening (which ran waaaaaaaay too long)?

The whole of the part with the initial cast. That was an amazing opening, totally blew me away. Just long enough to dispel the idea they were cannon fodder, not long enough to make it a distraction.
The rest of the film couldn't quite keep up with the level that set, but it was still a great ride.
It never ceases to amaze me how different people's reactions can be. Literally the polar opposites.
Except for Jason, aren't all characters in F13-movies basically cannon fodder?
There's usually someone who survives long enough to kill Jason again...and again....and again....
The expectation was that these people would form the core of the story, at least it was when I watched it, I didn't know anything about it. So when they all got offed it was surprising and enjoyable.

Yeah that's the killer cut. In the theater cut she doesn't escape until her brother rescues her.
The deleted scene where Jason gets his mask is similar to the one in the actual film, just gorier. Jason is caught stealing gas from the barn and the red neck dude(who found the mask and put it on) gets his head cut off by Jason. The he puts on the mask. If you still got the dvd just watch the deleted scenes.
