I Need A Script!*

Challenge: Write a 2-6 page script that takes place in/around an old house, with 2 to five actors.  Low budget.

Action has to take place in and around an old house. The house is going to be torn down, so you can do anything to it.  Maximum of five actors is a suggestion, you can have more if needed, just you can't have a crowd scene. Actors would supply their own costumes. No specialized props beyond what you could reasonably pick up on the way to a shoot.

Script due: February 24th at midnight edt. 2/23/24 @ 11:59 pm edt

The Gist
  • Genre is open .
  • 6 page maximum
  • Do not put your name on title page. Anonymous challenge.
  • Scripts are due to SimplyScripts.com/OWC by Friday, February 23th at midnight edt.
  • Please put (c) 2024 on title page.
  • This is a challenge, not a contest.
  • Participants are expected to read and comment on as many scripts as they can.

*this is a hypothetical.  I don't need a script.

I swear the thread was originally titled "nothing to see here" and the pic of the cabin was up where the counter is now. Then I reloaded the page a few minutes later and it was gone, changed to the OWC theme.

Curious, if you check the stats, there's been an influx of traffic to the site as of late, I'm thinking... ghosts in the machine? oooohh

Yes, it's all a part of the bigger plan, Rick.
Think of yourself as one of the chosen ones.
Some people see the signs and some do not.

Haha! Turning your system off may result in discarding the incomplete update files, or - Might cause you to have to restart in Safe Mode.

Do not go to sleep.

There are no actors available. It's a OWC.

Don's original post has a bit of fine print at the bottom

I wish I was artistically talented enough to be a tattooist. In this case, I am the canvas   Got my second session for my full sleeve.

Never would have picked you for a full-sleeve kinda guy.
What specific artwork are you getting, if you don't mind me asking?

CGI is generally not low budget.
I suppose you have to ask yourself could it be made with and without the CGI?

P.S. I'd write it regardless.

Probably easier to just show you. This is after one session. The generally theme is leaves because I am obsessed with houseplants (I probably have 200+ now) but there are other seemingly random elements thrown in to represent different people (An apple for my youngest, T-rex skull for my oldest, a crown for the better half and a tripod for me and my 2 best friends (we are super cool and call ourselves the tripod ))

IMG-3180

But so I don't run the risk of derailing the thread. I will say my OWC idea is fully formed in my head, just need to get it on the page and coherent.

Submitted.

I've noticed a pattern in my OWC entries, in that the ones I am happy with end up doing poorly, and the ones I don't feel as good about, do quite well.

This one, I'm happy with.

Ruh roh.

Either way, good luck everyone.

In between the stress of starting a new job this week and simultaneously battling the stomach virus from hell, I was thinking I definitely wouldn’t have anything to offer this go round.  So why did the siren song of an OWC have me lying awake at 3 a.m. thinking about stories that might involve old houses? Regardless if I’m in or not, I’m still looking forward to reading all the entries.

Cheers to another OWC!

Oh my God, I'm aging

Have fun, people. It seems like a very fun challenge. I'll read a few. If I don't forget

Nothing.  Absolutely no ideas.  And I hate the idea of throwing something together that sucks just to get an entry in.

But I do have 13 hours to change my mind, I guess.

I'll Be Seeing You (short) - OWC winner
The Gambler (short) - OWC winner
Skip (short) - filmed
Country Road 12 (short) - filmed

I've thrown my chips into the game in a vain attempt to overthrow the reign of King Paul.

If Dave and/or Warren ever re-engage, you'll see who the real Kings are. I'm just trying to make hay while I can.

I was so excited to find out about a new OWC, I came down with Covid 19 last Sunday.
Yeah, this has been a pretty rough week, but I was able to muster enough strength to throw something together last minute.

It may resemble a fever dream. I don't know. I may not recognize it in the morning.

Five hours. Well, four now. You could do it in your sleep.
