Hi there, just wondering why the "no script submissions until Aug 1" notification?
Has there been an extraordinary amount/backlog of late, or is it due to vacation time in the Northern Hemisphere?
Thanks, Libby. |

Well I'll be dipped. Seems odd that a site for scripts would be out of commision for almost 3 weeks.

Me, Are being arguementive for a reason? It was a simple observation. You do know this web site is a business, right? And you do know that new submissions create the interest that generates ongoing discussion, right? Which in turn makes him money on advertising.
No one is saying DON doesn't have a life, perhaps he needs a second person to help him out.
Lighten up PIA.

I just got off the phone with Don. He's not taking any submissions now because Bert killed a California condor.
Pretty sad, really...

Hey guys, I didn't mean to start anything here. Mine was just a polite enquiry seeking clarification. I'm sure we all agree this site (and those who run it) is an invaluable resource/showcase for our work/meeting place etc.
And anyway ... Phil's made it clear what happened! |

No, I have no idea how a web business works. I'm totally clueless. In fact I thought Pirate Bay, e-bay and Google were the only ones making money.

Easy, Shawn. Those who know Pia, know her response was not intended to provoke an argument. She offered her thoughts to be helpful. Really. I know her tone.

Shawn, Just so you know. I take your point and it shouldn't be dismissed. Whenever people think something is for free, they tend not to appreciate it. This is clear and true and if anyone doesn't believe it, then OK, we'll just let it be with you. Maybe Don does need help. Definitely, we should all consider this. Maybe we can figure something out so that his burden is lighter. I'm sure there are many of us here who would be willing to help... but you know how it is... It's the same with all of us, we don't like to ask for help. Sandra |

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - on a serious note, this clears things up. I wondered why my short wasn't posted this weekend. Oh well, back to work on my feature. I think 3 weeks will be a good break for Don, the amount of scripts that are on here is crazy and to think he's had to post them all himself. Take as long as you want, we'll be waiting when you return. |

Hey guys,
What if you sent a script before the no submission notification came up, how long will it take for those scripts to come up? Will it be after August 1st?

This is in no way a definitive answer, but I would assume anything that isnt up yet won't be up unitl after August 1st. |

Call me crazy but the OWC is normally every 3 months and during those you can't submit a script.
The last OWC was in April so that could be a reason. |

Quoted from Ledbetter What is OWC? |
One Week Challenge - just a game/competition/exercise done here every so often. A page limit, theme and genre is given, and then everyone who wants to enter has one week to write a script. They're all posted in a separate thread, and at the end one of them is selected to be turned into an iScript. There was one about 'family picnic secrets' recently. This break in submissions is good, actually. I now have a deadline I intend to meet - a feature, and at least one short, ready by August 1st. I SHALL do it. If you're planning on taking a vacation, or something, Don, then I hope you enjoy it. I owe you a lot; this website is what inspired me to actually start writing scripts. So thank you, and see you soon. |

OK Thanks for the information and I agree Don had done a great Job with this site. We owe a huge debt to him/her.
This may be a little off the point, but I was wondering how you guys advertise your scripts or your up and coming scripts below each thread you post.

I've noticed Don is back with a flurry of scripts, but I've noticed my 3 page short 'March of the Martyr' isn't one of those... I did upload it a few weeks ago, and also messaged Don with a question whether the title may prevent it from being posted or not, but haven't heard anything.
It's very short and straight to the point, and I hope no one is offended by the title and hope to get a few readers. |

Don usually uploads scripts in batches of, say 5-8 scripts, as to not dump the whole portal in one big swoop. If yours weren't among the recently uploaded then they'll probably come in with the next batch (depending on how big a backlog Don's got). |

I doubt people will be offended by the title. If they are they are that easily offended I humbly suggest they slap themselves silly with a dead fish then hide in a cardboard box and until they get a grip. |

'March of the Martyr'?? Maybe I'm dense, but what's offensive about it? Notice the title in my sig? It even has a word in it that usually is censured... Even some of my avatars could be considered offensive. |

Yeah, I gotta upload a couple scripts myself. I was back and forth on uploading Frost Bite, but feel it's about as ready as can be. I have one of the highest bars for approval, so if it's not good enough... Know I won't post it up. If it meets my standards then it's thumbs up. I feel it's good enough.
I hope to proof it, PDF it and upload it within the next few days. I also don't want to have it pushed to the bottom by a ton of other submissions either though. I have a feeling there will be a slew of scripts uploaded over the next few days. |

Folks,
Apologies, I need to push out the date to August 8th. I'm still recovering from Lyme disease. Although it was caught early, it is still quite debilitating. In addition, I have a number of submissions from early July that I haven't gotten up, yet.

Hey, that is really dreadful to hear, Don. I'm sure I am not the only one sending you all the good Karma I have on-hand for a speedy recovery.
Word up to the rest of you guys sitting on scripts. Might be better to hold off for a while.
Let Don enjoy an empty in-box for a bit -- and as Balt noted, you will just get buried under the avalanche of new stuff anyways. |

Lyme is no joke. I hope you're recovering well and will be back to the site in good spirits sooner rather than later, Don.
The added time will be good for me, actually. I know I can pump up my script and make it even better now... The dialogue in this script is second to none. The set up and execution is paced with near perfection. Every 5 min something happens to progress the plot further. It is almost the best script, I believe, I've ever written in terms of structure and content per page... I say "almost" because Coffin Canyon still holds that crown.
Frost Bite is only a short, but it feels like an entire 2 hour/120 page affair by the time you get done with it. I know I'm setting myself up for multiple naysayers with how much hype and anticipation I've put into it, but when you stack up Frost Bite against anything you've read as of late the level of quality and attention to honest dialogue won't compete. It just won't.
I welcome the naysayers... Cos I can take anything thrown at me and walk away smiling. But I honestly feel this is one script where not too many people will have too many things to say about it negatively. Sure you'll have a few... but by and large, people who read it will say -- "I would go see this movie" and that's what's important.
Frost Bite should be made on principal... "ha" |

Get well, Don, but take your time. No need to rush anything, your health is the only thing important here. |

I can't believe there has been a gripe over the fact that SS submission is closed.
It's a slap to the face of Don and an insult to all the writers who use this section of the site.
There is a mountain of unproduced scripts here. Do you here me. A MOUNTAIN!
Instead of ringing your hands sweating out when you can showcase your next script, why not dig deep into the pile of scritps and read stuff from the regulars whose stuff you may not have read yet.
I have been here for a few years now and there is a generation of writers here who have never read my features and old shorts. People like Shelton, Phil and Pia have been here even longer and would have a load of scripts buried deep.
Go read some other peoples stuff you missed and when everything cranks up again you may have some writers who owe you a read and will start with the new script you have uploaded. |

Totally agree. But as a consolation, I perfectly know that some visitors don't read just the new ones. I've been contacted by people who read my shorts written several years ago. Another problem, when you do a rewrite, your script stays buried and no one knows the rewrite has been submitted unless your warn people. But it is a rewrite of an old script, it seems people don't care. I can't explain why people is so greedy of new scripts... It's a mystery... Michel PS: Hold on Don. Health is essential in life. I know what I'm talking about... |

And Wesley has been here even longer... hold the applause, please. If people really need reads exchange and that way they can make edits before posting a script. Gives you a better chance of posting the best possible version because people don't read twice (Most of the time) if it's not a really short short. More people would be happy that way and it all evens out. Plus it would save Don posting, removing, posting new version, removing, posting yet another new version and so on and so forth. |

Folks, Apologies, I need to push out the date to August 8th. I'm still recovering from Lyme disease. Although it was caught early, it is still quite debilitating. In addition, I have a number of submissions from early July that I haven't gotten up, yet. Don

Sorry to hear that Don. I do hope you get better soon.

Not sure who that was directed at. As far as I can see a few folks, myself included, just asked a question. |

I think we need to move Balt's promotion of Frost Bite back to the Frost Bite Promotion thread.
Can someone do that? It does not belong here at all, and will elicit responses, based on the outlandish self promotion alone.
In all honesty though, Balt, I am looking froward to reading it. I think you need to E-Mail it over to me today. |
