I read some of the lead script and posted comments on it.  The writer doesn't take well to criticism and posts nasty replies on the Bad Penguin script thread.

What a tool.

Good job, Phil - you're telling the guy that spelling errors will bring his script down, and then you say that "The on-the-nose dialog makes it sound phone."

Mike,

Play for #2 this month, man (which you're not, anymore, btw). Let this kid get his coverage and then in March the heavyweight scripts will fight it out.

Oh, and just an aside here about friends and fan totals - I have 6 cousins who live on Facebook, so if I wanted to win a popularity contest I can have hundreds of fans in a matter of hours...

Of course I can use the same power for evil instead of good. Just a message to gaijangirl2004 (wink wink, Phil).

I think the popularity thing is the only thing it's got going for it.

It gives you an easy option of embedding your script in places like Facebook. It may make your script more accessible to the general public, thus creating a nice wave of support that you can ride.

It's something worth trying to take advantage of, IMHO.

Yeah, that is bad.  But I didn't use a spellcheck like this guy claims he did in his script.

I just pulled my script from the site.  The guy that wrote Devil's Instrument was allowed to post negative comments on the Bad Penguin thread, all while admitting that he didn't read it.  At the same time, my review of his script (as well as all other negative reviews) were deleted.

I recommend that all other SS writers pull their scripts of and tell circalit why.

I'm going to enter the real competitions now.

I can live with the guy currently in the #2 slot being ahead of me.  He's very active on the site.

Absolutely he is, and he appears to be a professional writer as well as a professional critiquer. And I'm thrilled to be sitting where I am.

Phil doesn't realize that it's not so much a contest as it is advertising. If the site takes off it can be tremendous PR just to be in the top 10.

I would recommend leaving him alone. In business and the film Industry, it tends to work out that if you criticise somebody, it just gives them more publicity and they'll get the benefit.

Better to use the site as an advertising resource than get involved in silly internet wars.

How much publicity can a new site generate?  And, as someone else pointed out, when the people discover that the number 1 script is a bad one, that site wil lose all cred.

The site won't generate publicity - you can steer interested parties to the site as an accessible way to view your work. And the comments that others leave is good PR as well.

And the people who get to review the #1 script have to go to the first page to read it, right? Who knows how far they scroll down...

Wait, hold it, breaking news - it's all about haberdashery?

Count me in then!

It's not the site that will generate publicity...it's you, for your own script.

The only good thing I can see about the site is in the mix of social networking with the script form.

The major problem with scripts is that no-one reads them apart from filmmakers or other script writers. This, in theory, makes it more accessible to the general public.

I don't think it's beyond imagination that someone like you could knock up a script with wide general appeal and then use networking sites to spread the word about it and build a clammer for someone to fund it.

Throw in some nice podcasts, nice photoshop mock ups (which you are already very good at)etc

Then stick up a proposal on that indie website where you ask for funding....name escapes me....IndieGoGo.

I think this should be looked at as an opportunity to showcase yourself not to the other writers on the site, but to your potential fanbase.

This is purely theoretical of course...but it seems an interesting idea.

But there's a million sites out there to promote scripts.  Why go to a new one?

My limited understanding of circalit was that it seemed to include better social networking options than most script sites, including the ability to embed scripts on facebook.

That's it really.

Hey, I'm not trying to convince you. Fuck it off if you don't like it.
