Lol, fair play Mark, still the option to vote for your own script...I'm going to have to try really hard to not behave like a massive bellend and do that!
I try to (and I think I have) read and reviewed every script in every OWC I've taken part in. Not coz I have loads of time as I don't, but because I personally think I should. But that's my choice, everyone else can do what they want. Sometimes I find it's just better to take care of my own side of the street.
For more of my scripts, stories, produced movies and the ocassional blog, check out my new website. CLICK
Being anonymous is not mandatory. You can use your real name if you like.
Ah, I didn't realise that. A few years back we didn't have the anon thing and the sky never fell lol.
Getting back to Mark's rant...i hear what he's saying and I felt bad about it so I reviewed his script after he explained why he went over the limit ( the Liverpool factor swayed me, you know, Beatles and shit lol). But I spent an hour when I had finished writing my script getting rid of the half page that disqualified it( in my mind). My fastidiousness makes me horrified that I would dis the criteria by not keeping to the 6 pages (again, that's just me, you know, OCD and shit...lol)
Anyway, despite all the discussion in the last few pages, the glaring evidence of non-reads is till there for all to see!
If 34 people entered scripts, then why doesn't at least one of the threads have 34 reviews? No one has to read all of them for this to happen but it rarely does.
It's not my genre AT ALL, neither super heroes or comedy are where I normally play or would consider playing., and I almost didn't enter...
But hey, this is an OWC, this is fun right, stretching ourselves, trying different shit?
I've read everything, other than the 3 long ones and i won't read them until after voting as I don't want to colour my opinions going into the vote.
I didn't do this to be a dick, most people know that's not my style, merely becuase this challenge seemed to have a fairly clear page cut off that was actually debated in the thread... Agree keeping it under six was difficult but surely that's where the challenge bit comes in?
Irish, appreciate your frustration and see above, will read it, wasn't been an arse!
I have read every script in every OWC i've been part of, apart from the long 3 in this one, because it's good manners, isn't it? Surely we owe it to our fellow writers to support them and read/comment?
Personally I attribute a significant proportion of my (limited) success to SS and STS, so I try and pay it back, does anyone not entering the OWC not feel the same?
So I genuinely don't undertsand what's so hard about reaading and commenting, and I don't understand why this cannot be done in an encouraging and positive way.
The 6 page scripts made reading and reviewing a bloody breeze for the challenge! I sat down at the computer and went through them all in about an hour, writing down the titles and the score for laughs on a piece of paper. Piece of piss!

I'm not going to speak for Don, but I would guess it'll be some time in the coming days.
I'd like to propose a slight rules change that would stop scripts like Super Singles for being unfairly lumped in with the scripts that were clearly too long.
Does 6 pages mean up to 6, or is 6.5 pages, or 6.75 pages count as 6? Super Singles came in at 6.25(ish) pages. And even Dustin agreed that anything under 7 pages is technically 6.
So, I propose that we either use a rounding up or down system where if it is up to 6.5 pages, it's 6, more then 6.5 and it's 7.
OR instead of saying 6 pages, just say no more then 7. That way, there is no debate. It MUST be less then 7. Obviously, 7.01 is greater then 7, so, it'd suffer the penalty of being put last.
In addition, I think the scripts that were too long should have been "grandfathered" in for this OWC with the "rule change" stating that if you go over, you will be dinged and put at the bottom. That way, people know what will happen, and no one will be caught by surprise.
I'm just trying to be fair. I know for my story, I was unsure if 6.5 was 6. I'm glad I cut it down to 6, but, I had no clue that I'd be penalized if I didn't. The OWC are supposed to be fun, and those 3 scripts entered knowing they were over, but, weren't given any prior notice that they'd suffer a penalty. Now, any OWC from this point on, would know that if you go over, you will be singled out and put last.
I'm fine with that, I just think it should be announced before you put it into effect. And I do think the page issue should be clarified for all to understand.
I'm interested in reading animation, horror, sci fy, suspense, fantasy, and anything that is good. I enjoy writing the same. Looking to team with anyone!
I don't really think we need any clarification. The rule was:
Quoted Text
You have seven days to write a screenplay of up to 6 pages.
The - "up to" six pages was pretty clear to me at least. It means 6 pages is fine, 6.5 pages is over the limit. We don't need clarification on the 7 days - no one thought - crap - I thought I had 7.5 days to enter. Even the author of the script mentioned stated that it was a cut and pasting error on their part - not some misunderstanding of what up to 6 pages meant.
In terms of separating by page length - (i.e., here are the ones that violated the rule) - probably not a great idea. Readers can decide like they do for other aspects. For example, in this OWC some folks thought that the use of real superheroes along with a created one violated the rules. Personally, I didn't since there was no prohibition against it and in fact the rules said they would allow for cameos. But - for me - it is cool for the readers to decide on a case by case basis. However, we ought not start getting to the point where we are parsing words like lawyers. It's an OWC for Christ's sake - not a mortgage contract. Up to six pages means exactly that.
I agree the scripts that went over didn't necessarily need to be isolated/pushed to the bottom of the list; the readers could've sorted that out. I also sympathize with Mark's previous post about the effect this had on reads (and will be returning his read). At the same time, I still really don't think the page limit is up for debate if it says "7" at the top of the last page or seven pages come out when you print.
The scripts got to be part of the challenge anyway. They'll be up for voting with the rest. If scripts aren't singled out next time when they're posted, problem solved. Beyond that, what's the point of splitting hairs?

Thanks for listening err reading. Dan
Dan, It's very nice what you're trying to do, but I don't agree I should be voted for. My rant was about the lack of comments, I stupidly went over by a few lines, but rules are rules.
Anyways thank you all for the extra reads and comments...
