So, even though I finished my first draft the first day, I was not able to submit in time due to my crazy job (which is why I wanted to enter the first draft, even though the story itself sucked). I would like to know if I can still read and comment on the scripts as if I was actually participating?
Thanks. Maybe I'll be able to get into the next one!
My understanding is that you can always read and comment on the scripts whether or not you entered, the only thing you can't do is vote for the order of the crappy mug "prize."
I know I read quite a few for the one I didn't enter, I just couldn't vote.
And I wish I knew that I could have kept it at 6.5 pages. I really took out some stuff I didn't.
IF people like it, I will probably expand on it, up to say 10 or 12 pages. I really don't know if people will like it or not. I know quite a few people guessed mine last time, I don't think it'll be that easy this time.
I don't think I have any gory scenes at all! It's a sad day when I can't murder anyone...
I'm interested in reading animation, horror, sci fy, suspense, fantasy, and anything that is good. I enjoy writing the same. Looking to team with anyone!
1. I think the page limit is important. I am unhappy because 6 pages is barely enough time to set up a story, and a comedy on top of that is even harder. Sure, you can do 1 or 2 page scripts, look at that Impact 50 limit of 2 pages.
But, the quality of the story really gets hurt when you cut so much out. The original story came in at 13 pages, so, I knew I had to cut a lot. And I did. When I got it to 8 pages, I really took a hard look. 7 pages was a killer. Then I got it to 6 and a half. I was gonna leave it there, b/c in theory, it didn't go over 6 pages, it wasn't a full 7, but, I thought I'd get dinged and didn't want that to be a problem too.
I barely got it to 6, but, as some others have said, their quality suffered too. IF people like the cut version, I might do a longer version that I had in my mind. I really have no idea if anyone will like it or not. I have a feeling some will find it unfocused. Trying to cram too much into those precious 6 pages.
If you can't make it on 6 pages, it's time to downsize your story and remove sidelines from your plot.
I wrote one, thought it was pretty good/funny-ish, and honed the shit out of it so peeps wouldn't pick it apart for typos, etc. Got it down to six pages too. I had it ready to go then decided (just before submission close, of course) to read over the rules one last time to make sure I was in the parameters of those rules...
Quote: "This isn't some redux of a previously existing character... You are creating a completely new character and letting them roam free and destroy the villains..."
Ooops... I fugged up! I took an (already) existing meme, gave him a back story, super powers, and had him take down some villains. I disqualified myself cause I wasn't paying attention... that'll learn me.
Anyway, the character was 'Pink Freud'. I had him take down a bunch of Gummy Whale poachers in a place called Candyland. He's a gumshoe detective, and (almost) every line he delivered was a mash-up of a Sigmund Freud quote with a Pink Floyd song lyric. The script was in the vein of 'Kung Fury'... hmm, now that I say that out loud, it's probably best I didn't submit, lol.
Anyway, I'll definitely try to read and comment on some tomorrow, but a mediocre facsimile of summer just arrived in my neck of the woods and I've got a shitload of yard projects on my bucket list. Best of luck to everyone!

Good writers can write a story in one sentence if required. If your story isn't good enough to stand up in 6 pages then it's unlikely that adding any more will help it. Your idea either works or it doesn't.
I will be reading every script- and marking them in a first for me; it's comedy so it's 'serious' for me lol - but I will not open any script that is over 6 pages.
Mine came in a half page over and took me an hour or so to make qualifiable. Sorry to be pedantic but rules is rules.
Mark, hope and your family can get through this sad time mate. Take care
It's been a long time since I've participated in a OWC and I'm looking forward to reading everyone's entries. Also, if you went past 6 pages then I'm going to consider your script disqualified. The guidelines were pretty open except for this one. Keeping my story to 6 pages was a real bitch, but it was a good challenge. Good luck everyone!
I know what the stipulations said and it's up to each individual reader, but people shouldn't be punished for their scripts going over length, if that is the case. They put in the work and they tried hard, just like everybody else did. Just my take on it.

I agree... I'm not gonna shit on somebody's script if they rolled a few lines over 6 pages... big deal, it's a writing exercise and supposed to be fun. If you made the effort and entered I'll read it.
I don't recall the guidelines saying approximately 6 pages. The length of the script was part of the challenge. I'm sure the people who went over 6 pages worked hard on their script...but the people who stayed within the guidelines worked harder.
