Sean, what I'm asking is - you mentioned mind reading abilities as a kind of super power. But do we really need to have bad guys in the script? I have a script where a kid can read mind and telecommunicate (or whatever you may call it). But there's no villain in that one.
So, can we have a script without a villain?

I have come up with an idea! I felt obligated to participate because it's comedy, but got worried with the superhero topic. But I have come up with something! And you could say it's...super. Oh aren't I so funny?

I would love feedback on any of these!

I gotta say, I have a mixed bag of emotions.

1.  I LOVE superheroes.  My immediate idea was my own creation.

2.  Superheroes and comedy don't really mix.  I don't mean like DC drama, but, even Marvel's stuff has some funny situations, but, it still pretty serious (I didn't see Ant Man yet).

3.  6 pages?  How in the world do you create a superhero, his back story, and have a villain, and put him in funny stories?  All in 6  $%^@&*$ pages????????

So, I think you're gonna see a lot of set up jokes.  Or putting them in odd situations that don't make sense.

Also, disclaimer, I won't use the South Park kids as inspiration for anything.  But, gotta say, Captain Hindsight and MintBerry Crunch are looking pretty damn good right now.

Also a bit disappointed at the limit one per person.  I mean, it's only 6 pages.  I'll read them all anyways.  I just beg and hope mine won't be the worst of the litter....

Unless there's a "prize" (like the ultra coveted order of the crappy mug) for worst, then I'm all over that...

Thoughts??

Dan

6 pages will be a challenge alright. I have an idea I like, but fitting it into 6 pages will be tough.

But that's what these things are all about right, a challenge?

I love the idea of this OWC. I've got my thinking hat on, and my thinking nipple tassels and thinking thong. I'll see if I can come up with any ideas! If not, I'll just enjoy wearing the thinking outfit and rubbing tuna brine all over my armpits.

No, there don't have to be any bad guys. I was just running through typical superhero tropes.

No one said you had to do the origin story. It's easy enough to already have them existing in this world. Also, have some faith. There are a lot of creative people around here. You'll find all kinds of situations with all kinds of comedy (remember: dark, satire, slapstick, gross-out, they're all kinds of comedy).

Ummm, Mark,
I think you got the wrong genre bud.  It's not a porn.  It's a superhero.  Now, I know there have been some superhero porns like Spiderbabe or Lord of the G strings, or BatmanXXX, or the infamous Justice league of porn starts.

Yes, they all exist...  No I haven't seen them, save for Spiderbabe that was on HBO one night, and was quite, ummm educational, I guess....

On a side note, what do you think of the comedy restriction and the 6 page limit?  I think those don't really go with creating a brand new superhero.

And I really wonder how one could do a superhero that can see through people's clothes (and not be the villain?) or others like mind control etc...

I have something... not exactly sure where to take it, but it's there. Feels good too, I haven't written a thing since that last short a few weeks ago.

Got it, Sean, thanks.

I think I got something too! No wait, I don't - I'm not going to jinx it and scare it away. Ideas are like butterflies, you know...

Can we define superhero so that there isn't debate on whether or not a certain script qualifies, which is especially possible considering this is comedy.

I would consider a superhero, in the case of a comedy script, to be someone who has, or perceives themself to have, a power or powers that not everyone has that they use in an attempt to do good.

I would love feedback on any of these!

I'm glad someone brought this up now as opposed to later and I'll give you the clearest answer I can. If it becomes a point of contention for people, I'll either expand upon or reduce it later. Batman, for example, despite the fact that he wasn't thrown into a vat of Acme chemicals, is still a superhero. He has skills/resources that make him that much more powerful than, for example, Rainn Wilson in "Super".

So, the second part of your post would fall into the "Super" category, which I wouldn't consider a superhero.

While this may seem contradictory, I'll tell you that I hate the idea of excluding people who want to participate. If you're interested in going that route, I have no problem with it. I just want you to be aware of the rules being bent quite far. Still, write on. =)

It's not a porn.  It's a superhero.

I haven't seen that one, but, I saw it on the IMDB database.  There are a ton of superhero porn flicks.  Who knew?

And I gotta say, whoever saw Super was one sick dude...  I haven't seen it, but, there was quite a bit of discussion on that.  It is certainly edgy.  And dark.  And for me to say it's dark means it's dark.  Like the pot and the kettle would both call it dark, dark.

Heck, my borderline torture porn short thinks that's dark...

Knowing you the way that I do, my first thought is through the gore content and into some bedroom, or sex-filled romp...

Even if you were doing a kids' show cartoon, I'd still imagine you'd take it there.  "Daddy, why does Elsa have bigger knockers then the other girls?"

And  "Daddy, how do you know that Kristoff is happy to see Anna because of the bulge in his pants?"

And "Daddy, why does Hans wear women's clothing under his clothes and carry around "female" toys?"

Ah, the innocence of youth...

Dan  (i'm scared for his daughter's innocence )
