Last OCT OWC, Don let my script in even though it went over the page limit. He's a nice guy.  I was punished by the readers however. I think that's how this will go. Some people won't care and others will refuse to read.

Gonna have to agree with those in favor of honoring the page length. For one, it's the only objective parameter in the guidelines. Hard to argue against it with a big fat 7 at the top of the page. Second, if you're less than a page over, you should be able to edit down to an even six with a little bit of effort (shoutout to Stevie). If you're over by several pages, your story might not be suited for six pages (except shoutout to DanC).

Plus I just can't help but feel like someone's gonna abuse the leeway just because they can. Call me cynical (I am), but fuck that.

I don't think it's in the spirit of the OWC to actively disqualify people, so I respect Sean's judgment on the matter. But like others have said, that is up to the individuals. In light of several members already on record for putting forth the effort to hit the mark, I'm not inclined to read entries that exceed it.

Seems a lot of folk are a little anxious about this OWC thing. Personally, I'm still playing Prince. Might put something else on later, but for now our departed hero is still big news. And so he should be.

I saw him live quite a few times, Prince I mean. What a showman. Oh yes.

Nevertheless, for each their own.

Now, what's on the telly?

Eh? What's that?

Oh. Sorry, I was confused. I'm sure I put something down somewhere. Ah well.

Imminent? Hang on, I'll have to look that up.

Ah. I was under the impression it was gonna be on about three week ago. And that book he's been promising. I was sure I still had a full head o' hair when GRRM first said 'Ahem, it'll be out soon.'

Having said all that... Both the telly one and the book one will be amazing, as they have up until now.

Hmm, I'm sufficiently distracted to forget about this OWC thing until, y'know, it actually starts. But I'm more intrerested in where that Prince album I lent to someone ages really is. I knew I should have wrote it down.

I wrote one, thought it was pretty good/funny-ish, and honed the shit out of it so peeps wouldn't pick it apart for typos, etc. Got it down to six pages too. I had it ready to go then decided (just before submission close, of course) to read over the rules one last time to make sure I was in the parameters of those rules...

Quote: "This isn't some redux of a previously existing character... You are creating a completely new character and letting them roam free and destroy the villains..."

Ooops... I fugged up! I took an (already) existing meme, gave him a back story, super powers, and had him take down some villains. I disqualified myself cause I wasn't paying attention... that'll learn me.

Anyway, the character was 'Pink Freud'. I had him take down a bunch of Gummy Whale poachers in a place called Candyland. He's a gumshoe detective, and (almost) every line he delivered was a mash-up of a Sigmund Freud quote with a Pink Floyd song lyric. The script was in the vein of 'Kung Fury'... hmm, now that I say that out loud, it's probably best I didn't submit, lol.

Anyway, I'll definitely try to read and comment on some tomorrow, but a mediocre facsimile of summer just arrived in my neck of the woods and I've got a shitload of yard projects on my bucket list. Best of luck to everyone!

@ Mark, so sad to hear of your loss...

You did submit no? I hope so. This sounds funny. And I'm not sure if you disqualified yourself as Pink Freud sounds like a pretty original character to me. My understanding was you couldn't use an existing superhero.

I thought existing superheroes were off limits too, but Pink Freud sounds original. I would have considered it acceptable...

I misread the brief first time round and got half way through an every batman actor ever drunken halloween night rampage, against anyone dressed up as their appropriate nemis's. Now that would have definitely not been acceptable

No... like an egghead, I didn't submit. I have a 'Pink Freud' coffee mug and that's when the idea hit me... when I was having a cup o' Joe, at the time the rules came out. I wrote the script  last week, and just before deadline decided to Google how many people might know about this 'Pink Freud' character...

F*ck, he's all over the internet, t-shirts, cups, a band (I think), a myriad of websites. I honestly didn't know it was a huge meme out of control. I got all bummed out thinking I wrote about an existing (hugely popular) character and didn't really follow the challenge guidelines. I strayed from the rules previously (elevator OWC) and got a good ripping for it, lol.

It's all good. I'm content knowing I managed to write another short for my script locker. Ah, maybe I'll put it up after the OWC, cheers!

I do believe that Don has posted all of the scripts, officially, so a big thank you goes out to him. We have 34 entries which is a great showing so thank you to all who entered. The master list can be found HERE.

Hey Mr. Blonde,
Can we have a list of all of us who submitted a short so that we can try to figure out who might have done what?

Only Don has access to the list of who actually submitted. However, the names will be revealed on Friday.

If people want to come forward and say that they entered one (besides the people who already have, in this post), that's no issue. Guessing is always welcome, but please don't say what you actually wrote, yet (not to you, just a general message).

It's a public holiday here today - April 25 is our sacred Anzac Day. so I have all day to read!

Its 4am now and am waiting in car for the Dawn Service. My daughter Abbey is with me. I'm wearing the shirt I wore at Gallipoli this time last year.

Lest we forget..

I just thought it'd be fun to try to guess who wrote what...

Oh well.  Although, so far, I can't figure out anything from the stories I've read so far...
