A page limit is a page limit and whatever the reasons for going over are, it really doesn't matter.
In fact, If I were The Don, I would not allow any script that went over by a single word, even.
Back in the day, peeps did anything and everything they had to, to make sure they were not over the page limit - not including FADE IN or FADE OUT, cutting lines, or literally just ending on the last line of the last page, without an actual ending.
Well, I'm ready to vote. Got a couple recs and a handful of considers. Tough challenge, some scripts delivered the laughs but fell short on story, while others had story aplenty but just weren't funny. Deceptively challenging OWC.
As for the page count controversy, I have to side with the hardliners here. The question was brought up many times in the days leading to the deadline and the response was always clear: up to and including 6 pages. If just a line or two wind up on page 7, then it's a 7 pager. Slash and burn whatever you have to make the page limit.
I think what this challenge has definitely showcased is how people's sense of humour varies. Very few made me really laugh, some were nicely written, amusing reads. It all makes me unsure how to vote. Do I go for what made me laugh the most or is story still the most important. It was rare to get both of these factors in a script on show in this challenge.
Anyway, congrats to all. If you want me to take another look at yours and give personal feedback, hit me up.
Seeing how the genre was comedy, I'll be voting for the one that made me laugh the most. Quite a few had an OK story and were well written but just weren't funny.
Finished all scripts but two that went over. Might check them out after the names are revealed. I will say that with the exception of two, none of the scripts were alike and made for very diverse reading, which was refreshing. That's usually not the case with OWC entries. The six-page limit also made reading a lot smoother, although at this point, I'm definitely a little burnt out from reading so many.
I suppose I'm voting for the script I thought was the best written. I did think it was funny though. That said, the scripts that made me laugh the most generally made me laugh at their expense.
There is one clear cut winner for me, but three will get recs. All told there were 5 or 6 scripts that were funny/well written. But the visuals on my top pick were just hilarious. Nice work to all!
Hope that ballot gets emailed soon, I'm starting to forget which ones I liked.
That's precisely why I leave a rec or a consider now in each thread that got one. When the voting form comes, I click the link on each title and scroll to my comment. Last OWC I forgot to do it and inevitably forgot which scripts I really liked. I had to try and decipher it from my comment, which wasn't ideal at all.
Be interesting to hear how others cope with this. I've heard some write things down on paper. Maybe others use their own spreadsheets.
This was a very fun challenge. Obviously we should do this sometimes again - 6 page comedy I mean. Thanks, Sean.
You think that I wrote Animal Magic? Or is there another Dan? I can tell you that I did NOT write that one. I think people will be surprised which one I did write. It was definitely different for me. I couldn't have any axe murders... Oh wait, I could have, darn it...
I forgot, superheroes use weapons too. I could have had like a Scythe person figuring out how to use his scythe and all the bloody goodness that follows...
Oh well. Lost opportunity.
I will say that I plan to do a rewrite of my story once this is over. I think i have a good idea, but, the 6 page limit really hurt me. The original draft came to 13 pages, so, all i could do is cut, cut, and cut some more. It sucked.
How many others got some cool ideas after the deadline closed? I know I did. Can't get them while the competition is active, but, man, once it closes, bingo.
I'm interested in reading animation, horror, sci fy, suspense, fantasy, and anything that is good. I enjoy writing the same. Looking to team with anyone!

Dustin, That's a great question. I actually keep an email of which scripts that I liked the best and how I ranked them. Otherwise, I'd have to pull up each one again and try to find my post. How do others do it?
